Problems with installation of Build 13 update 2

Hi there

Please let go of your rudders and help me out. I downloaded the Build 13 full a couple of days ago and tried to install it on top of my stock POTC. As it installed it suddenly stopped with a message indivating a "corrupt file". I unistalled and reinstalled the stock POTC, and downloaded Build 12 full and installed it without any problems - POTC run well! Then I installed Build 13 base and extracted it on top of POTC without any problems - Great new game - but with some nasty features such as crashes and lock ups...To solve the problem I downloaded the Build 13 update 2 hoping that this would make the game run smothly. As I exctraced it into POTC it suddenly stopped with a message about a corrupt file. IT seems that there is one file in the Build 13 update 2 that is the problem. All files have been downloaded from Pieters website with a download manager and I have followed Pieters instructions in detail.

Please help if you can - Im dying to hoist sails in Build 13!

the name of the file would be VERY helpful. or at least to other people than me. you could of course try and download it again if you didn't already do that.

Morgan,
Do you by any chance know how I can start a log when extracting the download?

If the Build 13 download is corrupted, try to download it again. Another installation procedure would be:
1) Build 12.1
2) Pre Build 13 Base Version (296 MB)
3) Build 13 Update 2 Full (35,6 MB)

See my site for more thorough instructions.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" /> What's the version of your stockgame, US, EURO etc.?
I remember this problem has been here before!
I've got the US version, and my installation is as follows:
1. Stockgame, make sure it runs ok!
2. 12.1, check to make sure it runs ok.
3. 13, check
4. 13/2 check again and you should run the Runme.bat after install between all updates!
It is not always nessesary but does not hurt!
5. 14/5 follow Pieter's instructions, Very important!!!!
A lot of people say you don't need 12/1, but I beg to differ,as I had problems
leaving it out! I've got this install on two machines and it works just fine!!!
repeat: make sure the installation works between updates and don't forget to run
Runme.bat!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Hi Pieter!
I have tried to do the update both ways:

1. Load "Build 13 full" on top of a fresh stock POTC
2. Load "Build 12.1 " on top of a fresh stock POTC, then "Pre Build 13 Base version" on top and last "Build 13 update 2" on top

At my first attempt when trying to install "Build 13 full" the installation terminated with a message "corrupt file". At my second attempt when trying to make step by step installations the message "corrupt file" came up at the end of extracting "Build 13 update 2" on top "Pre Build 13 Base version".

I have the European version of the original game wit hte UBISOFT label on it. I've done all the downloads from your site with a download manager and followed your instructions with runme.bat etc.

Do you have any idea how to fix it? Could a solution be to extract "Build 13 update 2" into a separate folder, somehow make a log of the extraction and thus be able to identify the "problem" file and delete it and then finally copy the rest of the files to the POTC folder?

By the way: Great community and great mod work, I'm sorry to learn that you will be leaving.

Regards,/Bjorn

i think that i have the same version as he has, so the problem can't lie there.

Heck; Even I have the same version of the game.

Have you tried downloading any of the files again? Try to redownload the Build 13 Update 2 Full version.

i think it would be pretty clear by now that there's has to be something wrong with build 13 update 2, unless someone can download it without problems. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> but what the heck. oh: you might have to clear your C-drive of all those temporary internet files by now.

Morgan,
Funny thing you said that - my C drive just turned out to be full! Do you by any chance know how I can clear it?

eh...remove stuff? i unfortunatly don't know what it's called in english, but pieter might: it's called schijfopruiming. it removes all the stuff that you don't use and wont do any harm when you remove it. it can clear up a huge amount of space.

I'm not sure of the English name as well. Might be something like "Disk Cleanup" or something and it is probably found in Accessories > System[something] . [something] means I don't know the exact name, but it probably has "System" in the foldername.
