Questions and Suggestions

I first have a technical question. I run PotC on a laptop. That means no number pad. That means no cheat mode. This really isn't that big of a deal, but I was wondering what steps need to be taken to change it to an unused button on a laptop keyboard. I tried a few edits in the controls file to no avail. There must be some changes I need to make in other files.

Now for the suggestions. I recently saw PotC:DMC and truly enjoyed it. When I went home, all I wanted to do was sail The Flying Dutchman and have my character look like Davy Jones. I hope you super-cool modders out there consider this in the next Build Mod. Build 13 is downright awesome by the way. That's really my only suggestion. If I think of anything, I'll post it. Thanks in advance for helping me with my cheat mode problem.

If you're arguing with an idiot, make sure he's not doing the same

You can change the cheat buttons in PROGRAM\CONTROLS\init_pc.c. After you changed them, reset the controls to default in the options menu in your game, otherwise the changes won't take effect. I hope that works for you. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Perhaps somebody will once try to add the Flying Dutchman into the game, but so far nobody is working on her. Davy Jones with his squid beard might be very hard if not impossible to put in. Would still be nice though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Thanks. I never reset my controls in-game.

The tentacles on Jones wouldn't have to move. If they were just there it would look cool. As I said, It's a thought to consider. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

the tentacle beard wouldn't be that hard i think. just use barbossa, make his beard grey, and give his beard thick lines of black to make it look like a tentacle beard. his crab-claw-arm would be a problem though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> not to mention his legs.

Okay, now I have another question. What keys aren't used that I could reassign the cheat options to. I tried F4-F8 but only F4 works. Any tips would be welcome. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Here's another thought concerning Davy Jones. In the film, Jones could only set foot on land once every ten years. Obviously ten game years is quite a while so mabey once every pay period the player can go ashore himself. If the player has to go on land any othe time, he has to send one of his officers in his stead.

Which leads to another thought. Becoming Davy as an optional side quest. Find the Dead Man's Chest and the key. When you do, you have some options. 1) Command Jones get you an explicit amount of money for his heart back. 2) Allow jones to join you and sail aroud with the Dutchman as another ship in your fleet. If you do this, you'll have to doge his lackey every so often as they try to steal back thier captains heart. 3) Stab the heart and kill Davy Jones. If you do this, you have even more options. You can become Davy yourself, directly commanding the Dutchman (and the kraken?). You can pay one of your officers to become Davy, which is like option 2 but without the theft attempts; or you can send the Dutchman to the depths and collect a large bouty from all the nations who are now greatful.

Obviously, the quest for the chest would have to be grossly difficult, but the end reward will make it worth it.

I don't think it'll be quite that easy. I'm not sure the beard would look convincing if it were flat. To make it look convincing you'd need a master skinner who can really make it look like an octopus beard. I wonder who would like to try that... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
