Wonder what will happen to the Mod now......seems we lost the 2 top fixers and modders. And because we have sort of Two different versions of the mod....if we try and blend them together, we will have in all probability more problems created for ourselves. I could see it coming, but How did this happen and Why??

Because some ungrateful folks kept pestering Cyberops to do this and that, never thinking he does this in his spare time. And also because deep down, the game is simply too unfinished, and with too many hard-coded bugs only someone with access to the engine.exe will ever be able to fix. The devs certainly won't; there will be only 2 official patches, and the first one had a whopping 4 bug fixes. I don't look for much more than that in patch 2. And with Cyberops sailed over the horizon, I think the handwriting is on the wall for AoP... actually it was with all the blisteringly bad reviews the game has gotten, and is still getting...

Aye Capn_Tucker, the real bad thing is.....despite all that, with the new towns and buildings, new ships, new oceans and Islands and a bigger Caribbean.... AOP with the Build from POTC, would have been a superior game. A lot of the gang over in POTC see it as more work, more cartoonish characters, and kinda like breaking tradition if they did use AOP. But after playing it, I felt that it would have made a better Base for the build.......

What When Where HOW?Seriously what did I miss and where has my matey cybercops gone?Who was the other person that left? What madness has struck this world to make a great and talented pirate leave the community that adores him. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Seriously if he is gone for good I may see if it's too late to return my copy.If we could have condensed all the different threads on all the different boards down to a few managble official threads i'm sure with help we could have made the mod a managable task instead of a tedious torture session. The sad thing is just today a few hours before seeing this post I sent him a pm about this very problem and how would could make suggestions, and bug reporting more managable and organized not to mention making this forum the official home of the mod so as to not have to bother with 10 different boards and 100 different threads and pms every day.Although i'm deeply depressed and infact pissed that there were people so inconsiderate and annoying that they drove away a great modder, but I won't give up hope.I hold hope that cybercops will return, that the game will continue to be modded and fixed(said while glaring at a certain company) and that the series and indeed the genre can recover from all the negative press the few bad decisions.

I seriously hope he isnt gone for good,
i really appreciate all the effort and work and time he's put in aop so far, and his patches and updates are the only ones i use on my game aside of my own tweaks.

We should send cyberops some rum and tie him to the mizzenmast so he cant leave <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

*phew...

Peace and order is restored to the universe - it looks like he will be back guys.

Aye Heretik....the possibilities are there fer sure, HOWEVER...one warning, I think it would be fair tew assume, he might be feeling a little "Used" or "taken for Granted". So I for one am gonna try to post stuff in general, but not make everything seem like "he has to fix it....cuz it is broke" routine.

This is where the mistakes happened in the first place, I think!! People were all trying out different things at the same time, putting the first skins in, the first ships, fixing this and fixing that....but when it crashed, as it <b>"ALWAYS" </b> does....It was CYBEROPS...can you fix it.....its broke???? And he had warned people that some of the stuff they were adding had not been tested....that's the key..... Any and all code to a game has to be thoroughly tested before using it. Code is funny that way, trust me I know the problems they are experiencing over in POTC....they think they have a great addon to the mod, but for some reason..., something doesnt work once it is put with something else...always happens. Three days ago they (POTC) were so close to a stable Build 13, they almost called a release.....now they have major bugs to hunt again, something didnt implement well and they may have been set back weeks again....this after they had a really good programmer working for them as well, but he left because he thought they were finished!

So I guess yes!... it is a "team effort", but you still need only one "Quarterback" to call the plays and move the team in same one direction, and not sure really?.... they, all made sence, but in the last three days we had 3 guys dropping code here and saying "IT was all fixed for the Super Mod....." But only one guy getting all the Private Messages saying "It broke again Why?....Fix it!!"

So I guess we shouldn't take Cyberops for granted, and just assume he is coming back to fix everything....hope yes, but not assume

Hello TTT....well It did indeed look that way, but now.....who can tell.....look back a page or so in the AOP SuperMod thread....I saw it coming as I suppose others did as well.....but we all allowed it to come to a boil...and PooF Up it went!!

Yeah I posted a set of ideas to get started right again but I'll leave it to the more experienced crew to make decisions. I would like to join the mod team however to do what I can. I am currently attempting to document changes made to certain files so we can keep track of whats added and changed.

Very true,

and while I know next to nothing about code (go high school QBasic!) I fully understand that problems do, and always will occur. I also understand the unstableness of the game itself, and the Absolutely INCREDIBLE amount of pressure that is applied to him - simply because he has more or less been the leader of the modding crew (forgive me if I am mistaken, I mean no insult by this comment) - and people will always address everything towards him. I have an undying respect for both his talents, and the commitment that he has towards people which you can see just from the amount of very helpful, very timely responses, and how he is basically bending over backwards to accomodate what people are asking for to make this the coolest game on the face of the planet.

That said, I really like the idea of having maybe a whole separate category of threads- much like they did with POTC. Then you could have pinned threads for official updates - maybe you need some kind of authority to post on it if you can do that (avoiding the whole conflict that arose that first time). You could have another thread for problems (giving more people that just Cyberops the opportunity to respond so that he hopefully doesn't feel as overwhelmed). Another thread could be recommendations and stuff.

I know that all of this is far easier in theory -and regardless it is a huge commitment - I totally respect him, and his decision if he decideds to in fact take a less demanding role, or just to out completely - but I hope that he does end up staying.

all that to be said..... uh... yeah - I pretty much agree with everything you said/pretty much repeated it.... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

oh - and if a mod team is established - I would fully love to join - or at least help out if I'm not useful enough to join...

I mean, I guesss I'm pretty useless, but I can draw concept sketches, I can retexture, or texture things pretty decently, and I'm a moderate painter. (I can also animate - but not on the computer yet).

Holy crap a lot has apparently happened in the few days I've been forced to be away..... Just glad to hear that Cyberops is most likely going to stick around.

Oh I think Cyberops will be back. He has all the traits of the potential creative genius and likes the attention. If people like this are challenged by a possible rival (like Meximaster) a favourite tactic is to dump eveything and have a sulk while also waiting to see if the multitude support his work over the rival. The way it is going I think he will be back soon, but he should find a way of working WITH Meximaster rather than against him.

i put meximaster's fix in and it didnt work for anything it crashed more. did a clean install of AoP with supermod and the updates and im back up to no crashes. Cyberops is the man and i hope he comes back. he has some great ideas and theres some talented people to do it but they need there own thread where we can just read and a seperate for problems we may have can go into a seperate thread.

Aye windwolf7, that be one of the "household" chores that nobody really has time to do or wants to do, but is probably one of the most important jobs in coding. It last for a long time and keeps credit where credit is due, and like Skull has adviced us that is really important , although people sometimes unintentially forget or do things in excitement and forget that they are treading on someone elses work....it happens. But probably the most important part of documenting or noting code is so that when someone else comes behind you, they see what you did, when you did it, and maybe Why you did it? <b>Increditable Hat </b> who help out on the POTC forums was constantly finding coding changes going way back, not noted and it made tracking down the rest of it, or the reasons for it really really time consuming and hard. Hook and CCC are still working with that, and they are always remembering to mention to people how important that is. So your work, although may go unrewarded, will bnever go unappreciated....cause someday, somewhere, some Coder will probably love your notes

Thanks Mate!!
Job well done

I'll post my two cents on this stuff - since I can. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

The problem isn't that someone decided to split off and do their own mod, the problem is that there isn't any structure or control of the mod to begin with that helped created a flow control and designated team working on it.

Hopefully, we can get that under control. If people working on the Mod don't work on it together, as a TEAM, it will crash and crumble.

And I don't say the following to be mean, but a Mod shouldn't die with any single one person. Can anyone tell me how many people headed up the POTC mod before Pieter? So, if you breathe life into it, it will continue.

Once again, a team is needed. An actual list of individuals working together on this.

-William
