[REL] Frigate Arabella retextured (Cinco Llagas)

Zalioth

Sailor Apprentice
THIS IS NOT ORIGINALLY MINE, THIS IS JUST A CONVERSION TO THE ENGLISH VERSION. ORIGINALLY MADE BY "Metazot" FROM THE SEAWARD.RU FORUMS.

<a href="http://legend.seaward.ru/forum/index.php?s...=8875&st=60" target="_blank">http://legend.seaward.ru/forum/index.php?s...=8875&st=60</a>

Just a little reskin to add quality to the textures <img src="http://forum.piratesahoy.net/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> I'm thinking of modifying it to make it black and more pirate themed, but this one is a great improvement to have over the base one.

Enjoy ^^!

Pretty. But why don't you stick all your conversions together in one download?
Make it compatible with Captain Hawk's work too.
Get started on the CoAS Build Mod. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Yeah, that would be a nice idea, right now im thinking of attacking this mod (made by metazot) while i get the password to the tools so i can start retexturing by myself...

<img src="http://s59.radikal.ru/i163/0901/21/baed76fd0a62.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<a href="http://legend.seaward.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=8875&st=60" target="_blank">http://legend.seaward.ru/forum/index.php?s...=8875&st=60</a>

I shall talk to Captain Hawk and try and get organised.

You don't need the modding tools just to retexture. The GM Viewer, TX Converter and a HEX Editor are all freely available from the forum's Downloads section.
The modding tools are required for actual model-work, eg. modifying/making models themselves. And if you want that, just drop me a PM. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

The reason I suggest putting things together is that sooner or later it's going to become annoying with too many loose mods.
In the early PotC days there was also dozens of loose mods, but eventually they were put together to great effect. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Sorry I didn't see those "free" ones XDD, I downloaded the others and I'm interested in everything, not just retexturing <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> . Anyway, I agree with you, with this "not so modular" engine it's best to keep things together, otherwise it will end up implying having to modify sets of code lines to add a single mod without breaking the former ones you could have...

So agreed, sorry about my confusion, to be honest I'm just having some fun right now between my AI studying sessions. Once I'm done with that exam I shall have more free time and organise everything accordingly. And it would be great to start helping you guys in any big project you have related to COAS ^^.

That was intended to install different mods without actually overwriting each other. Used to work pretty well.
Though putting everything together in one modpack would be preferrable, it might still be worth considering using this old tool again. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Nope, an Artificial Intelligence exam from the university... Yeah I know what you mean, the main problem is that traditionally people have been programming without an adequate design first, and then things like those happen... This is one of the biggest problems that the actual software industry has, my teachers can't insists on us enough to do some Software Engineering before starting to program anything half serious <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />.

I've done quite a bit of programming on my graphical calculator and then PotC and now I actually ended up doing half a year of quite a fair amount of serious programming work.
And I learned it all by doing, never from a teacher/book. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

You´re gonna force me to uninstall my spanish version and reinstall with the english version because of the mods planned <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
A clear localized texts edited and well marked to spot them quickly in order to make translations would be much more than apreciated. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
I always make a mess between sloop and schooner, and don´t know at first sight which one is a 'Balandra' or 'Goleta'... and the dialogs in your native language for a roleplaying game are the most inmersive part.

Yo tambien soy español ^^, pero uso la versión inglesa por los mods XD.
They are only retextures, they don't change any text, excepting the katana, which i changed the description.

Pieter, I didn't mean to offend, everyone learns how to program by programming... the problem comes when you have a really big program in front of you and you don't take design decisions that will affect the maintenance in the future... ^^
And yeah, I, as everyone else, program my little things without those serious designs, I only use them when I need some professional quality <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />.

Zalioth - Believe it or not, you are going and grabbing all the stuff I was already planning on compiling. **grins**

Good to see everyone that is diving in to getting mods put together for the game.

Something I would like to see is a compilation of the mods.

But something that MUST be done in my view is making sure that anything that can be considered a 'cheat' of the game should be set on a toggle that can be turned on and off in a new menu we will need to build.

But things that just add models, locations and characters should be 'on' all the time.

Hope that makes sense.

We will probably need to start a new thread for all the CoAS modders to work together and plan how to make sure our mods are all compatible.

If we really want to make sure that things go smoothly and look as professional as possible we will also need to organize and make sure we stick to our plans.

Sorry for having done this faster <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> but now they are accessible, so, use them ^^!

Totally agreed about the rest, I can't stand cheats in my games and putting together all this little things will make the game much better, we could organise an installer if we get different versions of a ship (arabella for instance) for the user to choose which would be installed. That way we could keep a huge lot of content in a single mod, encouraging user personalisation.
Count on me to do some modding <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />!

JAjaaa... pensaba que sería de los pocos españoles que estaba por aquí, me alegra ver más compatriotas. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

I´ve seen 2 versions of the Arabella retextured and the merging of both ships would be perfect...
this one has a good hull, awesome cannon textures and a plain main deck
the other one has a good hull too, worst textures for cannons but an interesting main deck of vivid red.. the pitty is that textures on this version have lower resolution.

At the moment this is the best Arabella repaint available...
and waiting for news of th reblading project... the icons look gorgeus, hope the weapen have some changes too... waiting for more news! I can´t download from the russian storage sites... one said bad gateway, other doesn´t find the file and the other said something on russian but no idea of what...

<b>BEST REGARDS</b>

Make a BuildSettings.h file again with an ENABLE_CHEATMODE toggle?

Also, note that ships do not need to be REPLACED; it's posible to ADD ships too.
Same goes for character models and pretty much all other content. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

See my avatar. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
I just ended up programming for half a year, without any "official" programming experience and managing to make something people were quite happy with. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
But of course I learned a lot from PotC. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I've been looking at the Reblading mod that I mentioned before, and I can convert it, excepting for a little problem I've found...

Aparently it's a mod that works over (literate translation): Korsar: NVQ / KWL . Can anyone tell me which AoP is that and which mod does it have? because When I was checking, I found they added the ability "musketeer" (in the item's description...) to be able to use muskets, and a new item, powder for the guns and muskets in order to be able to shoot them.

Thanks a lot in advance ^^.

EDIT:

Sigh... it seems it works over the mod Hardcore Edition 123. I'll try and check if I can translate it...

Indeed. And the problem with the Hardcore mod is that many of the new things in it are in the program directory in files that are NOT accessible on the russian version of the game.

Russian version of the game is locked down so only authorized mod groups have access to all the files in the program directory.

Currently we do not have approval from Akella or Seaward to get access to any of those files from the Russian mods.

Cap'n Drow

Well, I can translate it, leaving behind the references to the ability "musketeer" and not including the item "Powder" (for guns and muskets). At least we could use it in the vanilla version and upgrade it adding those two little things after we get the hardcore edition 1 2 3 mod... (By then, it will probably be included <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />)

What do you think? Any suggestions that you'd like me to bear in mind while i do so?

Okay, I have a couple of things.

1) I'd like to see each weapon or item added as a NEW item, and not just overwriting something that exists. That way we have a much wider range of choices. If the update just looks like a prettier version of the original, then that may just help us with future modding such as the item quality/weapon damage mod used in the build mod.

2) For ships and characters, I'd like us to get as many updated and new textures as we can, so we again have a larger pool of potential character/NPC choices that we can make.

Thats for starters.

As I think of more, I'll let you know!

Cap'n Drow

It's just a retexture, model change and description improvement, in my opinion, they shouldn't be added as new unless I change the stats to make them, rarer, more expensive, slightly better...

It deffinitely can be done fast, and I agree that having higher variety will add flavour to the game ^^.

So how do I go about getting the Arabella? Haven't seen it since bringing it into the game <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
