Remove captain before sale

RaptiCon

Landlubber
I just captured myself a Sloop, finally I can get rid of that awfull Lugger. Only problem is, I don't want my officer to dissappear when selling the Lugger, so I was wondering how I remove him from his rank? I tried the rebirth method, where everything was ripped of the ship except the cannons, but then my ship disappeared, and I really need the money I get from selling it so this is not an option. Any help to give away?

And one more thing, I am struggeling in battles on the high seas, I haven't been able to try the Sloop yet, but something tells me that it's not so much better then the Lugger after all? Could I get some guidence in what ship I should buy? It should be fast and be able to harm an enemy ship. When I've been in combat with the Lugger, everything moves so slow except for the enemy ships. I try boarding, but it's just impossible. And sometimes my ship just stops, don't ask me why, maybe because of the wind or something. I've just started a new game, so maybe my abilites and skills have something do to with the bad fight I give enemy ships. But anyways, help is very much appreciated, very appreciated indeed.

And one more question, when it comes to editing files like characters_init.c, is this something that has to be done BEFORE you start a new game? Because I have tried editing f.ex Ledership, but it isn't registred in the game. It's the same situation when it comes to the invincibility cheat in the FILES section, that doesn't work for me either.

He should not disappear, but will rejoin your contingent. You WILL, if you have added any extra officers to his crew, lose THEM if you sell the ship. You will get back the person you've made captain, but the extra officers you granted him will be lost.

Here's my usual routine with a captured ship: During the plundering process, I assign a captain, and then transfer all the goods (rum, wheat, ordinance, repair supply) to the ship I wish to keep - and load the extra ship with the extra goods. MAKE SURE you remember to <i>assign</i> a captain, because otherwise you WILL sink the ship you've just captured. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />

I go to a friendly port and first off go to a merchant. Once in the merchant's store, I select the sell/buy menu and select the ship that has all the cargo I am not interested in keeping. I "SELL ALL CARGO" and am left with money and an empty ship.

NOW take it to the shipyard and sell it. You can then repair your own ship if needed, and you should be good to go.

Something to try is to tell one of your officers "I don't feel right in this world" - and ask them to give you sightings of all ships, not only the ones that you (presumably) can beat. This will give you larger and more interesting (and lucrative!) enemy ship targets! You will have a higher ship in no time! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I like the Xebec CT, it has good stats and is quick with a nice large cargo hold.

Generally, yes. Some things you can change and then reinitialize ("reinit") by pressing the "I" key in the game. This helps reinitialize certain processes, and can load most any changes without needing to start a new game. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Hope this helps! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

Again you help a pirate almost ready to walk the plank, thanks again <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Uhm.. While I have great Catalina here, I seem to have a problem when it comes to food, I always have to little. But on the other hand, I get somewhat confused when it comes to buying food to my crew, what should I buy?! Do I need all of the food sorts that the store has to sell, or only a few food sorts? Thanks!

Argh! I went to this ugly munk in Falaise De Fleur, and got myself a cross, only I didn't know that I couldn't SAVE at all after I took this cross. This was something I found out about after I had done a quest there, and I decided to go to Redmond shore where I was going to deliver the artifact to another ugly munk, the problem is that I couldn't find him at all. I checked every beach, every square inch in the jungle (even though the ugly munk in De Fleur said he was supposed to be on the shore), and while doing so I gained much XP and I found this KICKASS sword, worth 8000, that had 95% block rate! Pretty damn good for a newbie I tell ya, only problem is, I COULDN'T FIND THAT DAMN UGLY MUNK! And this forced me to quit the game, without the chance of saving, leaving me with nothing but a forever lasting HATE of the UGLY MUNKS! I'm going to execute everyone of them, make them walk the plank and feed their ugly worthless asses to the great white sharks of the high seas. This is all, just needed to let out some steam, don't want to go ruin my rank as Hero <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

I could still need answer on the question above, thanks!

Rapticon,
There should be a warning on the game, "Ugly monks should be approached with extreme caution as the mod is incomplete and faulty. Be sure to save prior to initiating any discussion with anyone wearing a cassock." <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />

Sorry Rapticon, that monk on Redmond will only show up in a new game after the files have been adjusted, Skull figured out how to get him to show up, but if I recall, the "quest" is still not 100%, even if you adjust the file. the monks mod looks like it was a good idea that never benefitted from a thorough follow-thru.

The food question I can help you with! You only need to stock rum and wheat to keep the crew fed. I cannot help you with the amounts you need to stock on your ship because I always toggle that off in BuildSettings.h, because I am a lazy person and would rather have more amunition, and spare sails and lumber, than keep an eye on the amount of food I have. One thing to keep in mind about the food is that a store will not always have as much wheat and rum on hand as you might want to buy because the island's supply can fluctuate.

I say go ahead and kill a few of the monks, I have always preffered being "Dashing" over "Hero", myself. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />

Rum and wheat it is then! So you have turned if off? I have conidered that myself, because it isn't much of a challenge to keep my crew fed, so it wouldn't be cheating if I did turn it off would it?

Dashing it is! No Hero anymore, just as long as those munks is sleeping in old jack's locker. Thanks for your help Sir Cristopher!

Hahah, thanks Sir Christopher, for fielding that one! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ty" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

RaptiCon, have fun! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

You might want to keep that lugger until you find something else if you are doing cargo quests. Just plop someone on it, and the extra hauling capacity equates to more cash in your hands for each quest.

I'll second that about the Xebex CT -- good speed, big guns, decent capacity, and looks great.

How to add extra officiers? And what are they for? Do they improve the stats of the captain?

Hello Mr. Cotton!

If you hit the "F2" key, you get up a screen where you controll lots of things, including adding of officers. Just click the "Passanger"-button, and then a new screen will be presented, where you see a picture of yourself and three empty portraits. In the upper line, you see the portraits over all the people you have hired, and if you have captured any captains from boarding other ships, they will appear there to. Just simply pick an passanger and click him in on one of the empty spaces.
You can also add officers to aid your other captains if you have more than just one ship, this can be done by going back to the F2 screen, and then clicking "Ship-to-Ship Transfer". When you have picked your ships, you will get yet a new screen where you can transfer anything, goods, change of captains, crew etc. Anyways, click the "something-Captain" button, and here you can add officers to aid other captains under your rule.

Officers are nothing more then men you can use you aid you in any kinds of battle, even though it's on land or on sea. They don't improve the stats of the captain, but after my knowledge I think they improve the overall status of the ship. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

Hope this helped you, I'm a newb myself so the more experienced players has to correct me if I'm wrong. Have fun!

Thanks. Tried it and it works. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />
