Replacement deck for ships

It took me awhile to figure this one out, but after staring at the original deck texture for <i>way</i> too long, I finally adjusted it to suit my own tastes. Overall it's much darker, and I made some changes to the cannons (stole the 'wheels' from Duke's Xebec BR deck texture <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> ) and masts. If you play the game with standard video settings, this deck will probably be too dark, but if you turn up the brightness and contrast like I do, the original deck is just too bright. This one works nicely in replacing it.

These are shots of the new deck/masts texture. See how the cannons are almost black, much more realistic for iron barrels, IMO.

By contrast, here are almost identical shots with the <i>original</i> deck texture.

You can really see the difference between them in comparison. Like I said, my texture probably won't look great with the original `dark-as`-&#$% video settings, but if you brighten the screen to see the game and still want the dark ship deck, this should help out a lot. I'm about to upload the texture to the PA! ftp area. The file will be named <span style='color:red'>`jar_deck-17dk`.zip</span>.

nice work, my decks seem to look a lot darker than your originals. prob due to to brightness and contrast like you said but youve found a good solution there!

While I was testing the new deck with different video settings, I noticed that the original deck was just about as dark as my replacement with "regular" settings (ie. no changes). That makes the whole game much too dark for me, though, so I raise the brightness and contrast, which in turn makes the deck look too bright. It's mostly just a recoloring job, but I <i>did</i> do some extra work to the masts and cannons, as well as giving the 'grate' a more iron look than the original golden/brass shade.
