I don't understand why reputation drops if you capture pirate captain and then "sell" him(pick a bounty)????

To me this isn't quite logical. I thought that everybody like pirate hunters, especially nation representatives and merchants. Ok except for other pirates of course <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
And also why there are only two options for enemy crew after they surrender throw them overboard or take them as slaves. They could add option like let them go with boats or something like that, just for reputation sake and roleplay
Also I would like to know how this options affects your reputation. I didn't tried take them as slaves yet.

The game kinda automatically assumes you're a pirate, so killing other pirates is apparently a bad thing to do. Not that it stops any other pirate in the game from going after your blood, though.

I was just about to ask this same question and I think in POTC you did have the option of setting a pirate free.

Thing is that you don't kill a pirate, you turn him to authorities for a small fee <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
And that is apparently in this game a bad thing to do. This just doesn't have sense to me

After you inprison the captain go to the cabin and he will be in the cargo hold. Talk to him and you can set him free without reputation loss.

Well I've got this Corvette named Sea King with great speed and maneuverability with 32 / 32lbs guns and I was Abel to capture a pirate frigate and warship { after the fort had done a lot of damage to their sails } by pumping them full of buckshot and both captains surrendered and I got the option of capturing them or throwing them overboard so I threw them and their crew overboard and took their ships.

And now my rep is a shark

I've also found out that when the pirates surrender and you take all the stuff in the ships hole then let them go it also raised my rep from shark to swindler but it still say I've robbed them.

Well you did. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> It raises your rep even if that ship wasn't pirate, in Russia robbing ships is apparently a virtuous act. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />

it seems so, I was just reading the regenerating captains post, What a nice person and he REALY liked you sordid

Does anyone know the effects on reputation when you take a crew as slaves and later recruit them into your own crew?

I've never tried it so I don't know, the last time I had slaves onboard they attacked me and I'm lucky I had 3 really good fighters to back mu up.

Turning in captured pirates is a not-too-shabby way to satisfy the blood thirst of your bad-natured officers, without having to harm your reputation. I don't know if in anyway it would effect your officers that are currently placed on your ship, but I know for sure that companions with zero loyalty will stray away from your path.

i actually use the pirate captains i enjail as my officers supply <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
sometimes they even come with nice loyalty hehe

speaking about loyalty, i found that we dont need to hire officers with the same reputation as we, the thing is geting officers with the right reputation for our actions, shark officers love my way of doing things even im being a trusted saylor lolol

Same thing here, I'm a Man of Honor surrounded by swindlers and bloody assassins and pirate captains seem to refuse my offers when they have a positive reputation themselves.
