What difference does reputation make? What's the difference, for instance between <i>Hero </i> and <i>Plain Fellow</i>? What's the difference between <i>Bastard </i> and <i>Terror of the Seas</i>?

As far as I can tell, they whether hate you and attack you on sight or they don't hate you and don't attack you on sight.

i am not sure but i think that teror of the seas evrybody hait you and bastard only the country that your reputation with is bastard and the others dont care

the reputation effects how much they like you. for instance, i opened fire on a lone english ship, while serving the english. afterwards, my rep dropped from Hero to very good. so basicly, they forgave me for that one incident.

But what it affects? The prices in the nation's stores? The loyalty of the nation's officers? The likelihood of a nation's ship helping you out in a battle? Because all of that makes sense, but, from what I can tell, it doesn't work that way. The prices are pretty much fixed for all on the stores (except importing/exporting stores), the nation's help in a combat seems to solely depend on their relationship with your opponent's nation and when I became a pirate, many of my officers still remained fanatically loyal to me (though some officers' loyalty has dropped).

i thought i just explained it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

basicly, its how much of a chance you have to screw up before they dont like you :p

Yeah, but is it the only difference?

Also, what's the difference between Bastard and Terror of the Seas?

nothing, except terror requires you to work harder to gain your neutral or good status back, provided you dont go to mr fixit on isla mona <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

if you get to bastard the will be hunting you and you will find that you will often be stuck in a situation where you have to fight off ships (i pissed off the english and the french) and by doing so i ended up having to go against 3 english ships, and as i ran to the docks to repair I got stucked into a fight with frenchies. Was fun though, I ended up chaging ships 2x when i fought the french because my other one was about to sink lol.. Board and swap ships.. board and swap ships!
