rethink `dificult-levels`?

DeBruce

Landlubber
the implented `dificult-levels` are great but i think there can be done more.

- u still earn too much money so u can afford too soon the biggest ships. even uprising the price (in the ship_init.c) dont help. i increased all prices there by 100% and double the prices between corvette, firgatte, warship, lineship, battleship, MoW so that a MoW now costs 7.000.000. till now its much mor e funny, but now u dont buy them but conquer them. even if its hard to conquer a equal ship on the hardest `dificult-level`.
but increasing the price cant be a good solution, because double the price must be also double the efficency of the ship. i cant be that a frigatte costs 3.ooo.ooo and lose angain 2 corvetts which cost 1.500.000. maybe there s another solution to prefent getting the next `ship-class` too soon (maybe linked with the lvl.... no class 2 ship without lvl 30 and no class 1 ship without lvl 40....)

- enemies form the quests are too easy. cant they be effected by the `dificul-level` too?

Yeah, you're right. I'm playing Build 11 , in which you don't get so much money for trading missions than in Build 10.1 .
But yesterday I managed to conquer a Fleut , and with the fleut a galleon.
Thus smuggling became even more effective than before, so I had about 400.000 in about a quarter of an hour!

I played "Adventurer" and this is much too easy

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Hello !

I definetly agree to those points. But it is not wise to prevent a `low-level`
character from capturing a frigate, if he is somehow able to do it.
On the other hand, i don't think it makes much sense, to me, at least,
to let a 'nobody' _buy_ a dangerous ship, as i already pointed out.

Probably the caliber of cannons could be limited, or the class of ships, but
i suggest to link it to the corresponding reputation with a nation. The skill
of a captain is not as important as the _trust_ she earned, isn't it ?

The history of caribbean pirates was not a focus of my interests so far,
but i am pretty sure the governors of those times paid a bit of attention
to who buys which ship in the corresponding shipyards, and i am also
sure they interfered with some of the transactions. Especially the cannons
must be something they kept their eyes on.

I hope anybody knows something, and does not just 'assume" as i do.

Increase crew pay.

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Mates,

I agree with you, the build 11 is great which cannot be abandoned,
but the game is becoming too ease even at highest difficult level.

Iìve disable the "GoTo" feature when I'm at sea and this had increase the enjoy, but it's still too ease.

I've try to multiply per 10 the ship price and It's seem a good idea (thanks DeBruce) but it's still too easy. Just with a Frigate I can take every ship I want from the sea and so I earn too much money

I think that a good solution could be increase the crew pay, do you know how?

Another option should decrease the loot when I board a ship (more than a million for a Battleship is too much), as above, do you know how?

I usually select "Divide the loot" for crew pay, but It's still too easy, the crew usually remain in Excellent or Heroic moral to too time.

hmmmm ....
just as i read it again i had an idea:

if u increase the price (x10) the only problem about the money would be, that u can board every ship u want. so i suggest: give the captainb of a ship the opportunity to sink his ship by hisself before it is boarded (also shown in history).
that qould solve the problem.

and about the problem gaining too much XP: isnt there a multi, which can be decrease the XP?

Maybe it would also be a good idea if you increase the difficulties in
raising the morale and in addition to that 'harden' the algorithm
for boarding. So it becomes harder to successfully board a ship
(you must fence like one of them `musketeer-guys`), because the
opposing crew can be pretty sure about the fate it is facing.
So they all fight like madmen, which could actually result in a morale
boost for the opponent. All adding up to an effect which makes it
necessary to have at least 50 % more men left than the other, to
at least stand a chance. (I mean someone changing ships must be
a hell of a victim don't you think.<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />)

The same would actually work _for_ the player in a reversed situation.

I definetly like the idea of lowering the loot aboard a ship.
But most important would be to keep the 'good' ships 'out of reach'
for some time. Like lowering the prices for contraband, and the
rewards for trading missions. Letters of Marque should be more expensive,
like '`ouch-expensive`', pirate hunting should'nt be paid as well as long
you don't have one. This all makes moneymaking harder, but you do
it to reach a certain goal for a longer time, which is more interesting IMO.

Of course this isn't meant to be the general difficulty <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blah:" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Oops ! quite long..., hehe.

One of the things I would love to see is the enemy to have the ability to board and capture the other ships in my fleet, then be able to use them against me, just as I do with them.
Also, one of the aspects we're missing is taxes. Govenors in the Carribean tended to tax everything that moved in and out of the ports, and sometimes it was so bad cannons were cast in gold and painted black to avoid the taxes. Opens new doors for smuggling, or cuts back profits from selling ships, booty, whatnot. Perhaps a more expensive letter of marque could carry a tax exempt status, but be limited to only being allowed in one country at a time.
One of the ways we could keep ship classes under control is to use crew moral. The crew would know if a young captian had the ability to command a MOW, and it would affect their moral if we were in a ship we couldn't really handle well. With time and experience, that factor could be lifted, but the first time we steered a bigger class of ship, that would kick in no matter what our level was, just because of unfamiliarity. Crew moral should have a greater impact on fighting, sailing and loading, and Heroic should be nearly unobtainable and certainly not sustainable.
Just some thoughts.
