RobC/Alan_Smithee Blacksmiths Mod v. 2.0 ready for D/L

No problem Pieter; thanks for taking the initiative. I'm uploading a fixed copy of the download now, with the missing blacksmith model and the code changes (you got a black screen on FdF because I accidentally left in a bit of code that refers to a model that so far only I have). You can change the nationality of the greetings if you like; it really made no difference to me... they're wrong because I copied and pasted the same formula for them all.

This was tested on a fresh install of B12, so I foresee no problems... *fingers crossed*

Oh yeah, and no one seemed to have noticed, but I accidently invalided the door for ye olde Redmond taverne. So, that's fixed too. And as I overlooked this little detail before, I also made sure all the shops will close at night.

Two of the models are merged, the Douwesen and QC smiths, so their heads won't fit exactly right...

...And, finally, the file took its sweet time but it's up now. It's the "FIXED and UPDATED" version, which means there are now three versions of the file up... sorry... a moderator can delete the two extras. And if Pieter or someone would like to make a zip version of the fixed file, that'd be awesome.

Okay, Alan and everyone, I have got the zipped version up on the server -

<a href="ftp://files@piratesahoy.net@ftp.piratesahoy.net/" target="_blank">ftp://files@piratesahoy.net@ftp.piratesahoy.net/</a> Password <span style='color:red'>piratesahoy</span>

The file is called RobC,Alan_Smithee Blacksmith Mod.exe

and it is a `self-extracting` archive. Just click on it to extract - into an empty folder - and then take a look at the ReadMe's for the rest of the installation instructions. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I'm working on deleting the other versions now. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Great work, everyone, looking forward to getting this working in my game! Love the dialogs, they are very funny, Alan! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Was ita good idea to add to the pirate citizens dialog, so they tell you stuff instead of just blow you off? I understand pirates not being friendly and all, but I think the game designers missed something when they left all that out.

Thanks for making the zip, cat. and for the loading screens. And the fonts. And thanks Pieter and everyone for playtesting and submitting your computers to my `ham-handed` coding.

--------------------

A new unrelated question... an example of the game working right, but not as I would want: I have this one item you get from the Curio in a dialog, it's a `SWAK-style` weapon. But it gives that "you've got a new item" bing whenever you get it and then use it (gone after one use), whereas none of the other weapon items do that. The bing annoys me because it covers over the sound the weapon makes when you use it.

I don't understand why the game chooses to treat this one item, essentially identical to the others, this way.

I like the pirate citizen dialog, it's cool! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> It's so different from what it used to be, and really adds color to the pirate settlement. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I think you need to ask CCC about that SWAK thing, tho...

Works fine now, really nice work Alan <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_praise.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="icon_praise.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_praise.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="icon_praise.gif" /> . With all the good work you do, a B13 would be so good PotC would deserve to get reviewd again. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

We're going to eventually add these to the CVS server and database for updates through the B12 installer. That goes for this, and for anything else that comes up that passes testing. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

right, well about that, CVS server, would that be the FTP addres? i dont know alot about those things <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" /> , If things work out as i planned , il soon be makeing textures, im working on it, reading the tutorial and so, but they wont be so good to start with, iv reskined things in other games, but just basic skining. After some training i might even be able to make a few skins worth talking about...., if i find the time <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

No, the CVS server is how we compile the files for making the Build. Once we commit something to the CVS server, we can then make it available for an UPDATE through the B12 installer utility.

Reskinning is fun! I like it a lot, but then again, I am a graphics artist (among other things) and so it's easy for me to play in Photoshop. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> <b>Congratulations Alan!</b> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

The online update function is really good, this way, we dont have to think about what version we download, if its up to date to the new build, and we dont have to extract them ourself. I belive many of the worlds best modders couldent have done that better , defenatly a impressiv thing. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

It really is an amazing system that was set up between Mad Jack (installer) and dchaley (CVS). <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />

Drunken, been wondering where ye've been, matey! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Yes, that would be marvelous... I think he'd be pleased with the progress on this mod. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

I'd like to see Scheffnow around again, too. His ModHelper utility is SOOOOO HELPFUL... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I also miss Grumblepunk, he would SO enjoy Inez's Tool... He was (is) a modeler... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I think they all got involved with Real Life. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> Ah well, we have to muddle along without them, I guess... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

When you make this available in an update, could you please announce it (maybe in the build12 thread)? I find it hard to keep track of what's in the build and what I need to download separately.
This mod is my all means worth an update.

- Some polygons of parts in the blacksmith store (mostly cannons) disappear when you come too close with the camera.
[/quote]
I fixed the cannon model now so if Alan replaces it that should be ok.
The new cannon and a few other models I extracted from the game are available at <a href="http://home.arcor.de/swigard/Downloads/Models/" target="_blank">http://home.arcor.de/swigard/Downloads/Models/</a>
(get the file models.rar).

Any chance of using the cannons as replacements for the ship cannons since they're not as impressive? I would LOVE that. Anyways, POTC is defunct for now since I think I messed up installing the mod. Take care!

Im talking about the ones found in the stores. Those look way more detailed then the onboard cannons. Just a thought...
