runtime error

iballdriver

Sailor Apprentice
installed the stock game, v.13 final, music/skins/directsail mods on to a memory stick (4gig) and am trying to run the game on a laptop (windows xp, i have no admin rights, and the laptop is only 2 years old) (i also ran the runme.bat as well). i get the following error message when i click on ENGINE.exe icon:..
microsoft visual c++ runtime library
runtime error!
abnormnal program terminaltion

any and all help would be greatly appreciated. i installed the game and mods on the stick via my home pc.
thanks,
brian

Could you please anable logging by editing following in engine.ini:<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->tracefilesoff = 0
[script]
debuginfo = 1
codefiles = 0
runtimelog = 1<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->execute engine.exe again and then put text from error.log, system.log and compile.log?

I'm not sure if it will work with those additional mods (music/skins/directsail) on top Build 13 final. I have no experience with running PotC on memory sticks, so I'm not sure if it can be run this way (but it should if stock game or clean B13 works).

Did that installation of the game work on another computer? I know that the game tends to cause trouble on many laptops, mainly ones with Intel Onboard graphics cards. However, the game also runs on certain laptops.

an oversight on my part, not to run it off the memory stick on my home pc. but i don't know if it would have worked because the game is already installed on the home pc.
thanks for the advice,

Main folder is the same level where engine.exe file, as well as PROGRAM and RESOURCE foders are located. Check folder <drive_letter>:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Pirates of the Caribbean\ (assuming default instalation).

If the installation is correct, you could run it from the USB stick on any computer at all. No need to install it. It also works if the game is already installed. I used a similar trick to make multiple installations on my own computer. If the installation does run on a different PC somewhere, you know it's a hardware issue. Also: did the game work before installing the modpack? If so, it's <i>not</i> a hardware issue. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

pieter,
thanks for the reply. here is my next plan of action once i get back to the home pc. erase and reinstall the stock game on the stick. open the game and run it via stick on home pc and then try it on the laptop. i will then do the same after every mod install. i'll also go to co. IT and get admin. rights for this game. hopefully, that will allow me to rum the game on this laptop. so far, all i can conclude is that the engine.exe did not install on the stick. live and learn!
looking forward to playing with all the new mods!

There is NO engine.exe on the stick? How can you ever get a runtime error then? There's no program to run! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

In any case I recommend you install the original game correctly on the memory stick and check if it runs on the PC. If it does, you know the installation is correct. Then go to the laptop and try to run the same install. If it runs, you know the laptop can handle it. If it doesn't, you know there's a hardware issue. If the game does run, then make a working installation of all the modpacks you want on your PC and put it on the memory stick. Since the laptop can handle the game, it should also be able to run this version installed on the PC. Hope that helps. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />
