Sails and flags won't change

Hi all. Sorry if this has been asked. I did do a search.

When I go to change my sails or my flag in the ship screen and then go back to the 3D world, I still have my old sails and flag (white sails, English flag). I'm running 1.5 and a no-dvd patch (am I allowed to mention that here??? <img src="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//style_emoticons/default/user_comment.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" />) . Anyway, does anyone else have the problem or am I just doing something wrong/stupid? Thanks in advance.

are you in the direct sail modus when you got to the ship screen and change?

you must go to World Map/On Land and than again to direct sail.

EDIT: I take it back. It worked at first but now it's stopped working. I can change sail color ... usually (by that I mean it worked for two of the three ships in my fleet: two changed to black, but one remained white even though I'd changed it). As for hoisting the jolly roger, doesn't happen. it happened when I first tested after you told me but now it's back to the English colors, even though I'd changed them in world view several times to no avail.

What bothers me more than bugs are strange sporadic bugs where a feature works sometimes and not others. There's no ryhme or reason to this bug.

EDIT2: There was some confusion on my part about the whole sail option. Seeing the national flag part underneath, I had thought one part controls the sail itself and another part controls what flag you raise (don't know why I thought flags would be handled in the sail section). Having gotten my first medium-sized square-rigger with the national emblem, I can now see more clearly how it works and it works fine. I must say I'm not fond of the fact that I don't seem to have a choice to remove the national emblem altogether. It's rather ugly under certain darker lighting conditions (at least with my silk sails), as the rest of the sails are shrouded in darkness while the emblem kind of glows. At least it's figured out.

So what controls the flag you have raised? Just the nation you're sailing for? I noticed when I went to work for the Frenchies I got a French flag, but all the other ships in my fleet still had the English flag. Seems buggy/incomplete.
