Okay, I kind of stumbled onto this a few days back. Tried bringing it up to Playlogic, to no avail so far. Follows are my postings about this mod that is being developed, and is apparently supported by Akella. Even to the point of Akella programmers now being involved??


My original posting to Playlogic:


Will this add-on, being developed by a russian modding group, and apparently to be published by Akella/1C in russia. Will it be released/published for other languages? I'm specifically interested in a US release. But I'm sure there would be a large interest in this add-on by more than just American players.

Its the 4th section down, and then the second section inside there. Some really interesting modifications being done by these folks.

That Mod is being done by Alexus B and crew with Akella's permission to use 2.5 engine and I'm sure he already stated that at this time their is no plan for an English release, PlayLogic is probly unaware of this mod as it has nothing to do with them as a publisher <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
 
I did understand that it is AlexusB and the SLiB crew working on this mod. But some of what I've been reading there(admittedly badly translated by Babblefish) seems to indicate that this mod is more than just a mod, but an actual expansion, that will be sold through Akella/1C.

Now remember, this has been gleaned via so-so translations, but on top of that it seems that some of the Akella programmers have become involved with this mod as well. Though I'm not entirely sure if I'm understanding that correctly.

AlexusB does state in the FAQ for this mod that if there is enough interest from the english speaking community, then a release of this mod is a good possibility, but overall it will be up to the publisher. Thus my request to Playlogic to look into the mod and let us know if there is a possibility of an English version release.

Or so that is how it seems to read.

Just wish I read Russian natively and didn't have to depend on translation software to read the info. **grimaces**

Correct i to understand that i will be sold by them, but only in russian without any translation which would offcourse keep a lot of people from buying it.

No, it is game from "Sea Legend is Back" (SLiB addon for PotC) evolution by AlexusB (Seaward.Ru) to new complite game on Storm-2.5 engine.

Well if this is a completely new game, based on this engine. I think its kind of hokey that they released the version they did. I want to see this game properly fixed up. Instead we are seeing a halt to all communications with the AOP community not just by Akella, but by Playlogic as well.

Puts me in mind to start raising havok about this, start a web-site and really go to town about making sure folks know what is being done to the gaming public.

I'd like to give both Akella and Playlogic a chance to make this fiasco up to us all, but I don't see either company taking proper responsibility for either of thier parts in it.

Then to pour salt into the wounds of thier fans, they decide to build up a new version of the game, that according to the rumours will never see the light of day outside of russia?

Thats a pretty shi**y way to treat us.

Aye, I hear ye Cap'n Drow, there is more problems with AOP than bad code, 2.5 engine is not as great as all thinks, I'm probly gonna get clobberd for say'n this <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> but what the hell! Engine has problems, too many memory leaks, just open up your compile log in AOP directory and count the memory leaks = crappy gameplay, do a google search on PC game memory leaks and you will see what I mean. As for PlayLogic, well take alook at the shape there forum is in <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" /> If thats an indication of how they run there company,I shudder <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
 
It be a sore point all round what support this here fancy little game be gettin. An now theys got a new game bein made from it what theys expect us ta pay fer. It seems ta me, we be lookin at a situation whereby we get left with a busted game what has grand potential, and no forseeable future except what we makes fer it. So I says to ye lads, if them Russkie prats kin do it, so kin we! If ye gets off yer arses and put heads together, we could make this a game what we always wanted our bloody selves and ta blazes with the powers what be! Instead o' makin a bitchin board, makes a developin site whereby we all post our bits and bobs and actually cooperate on makin this bugger work. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />

I'm really interested in POTBS, RJ. But I'm just not into the pay to play model of gaming. Too much like a pyramid scheme.

I'd much rather pool our resources and talents, mod the holy crap out of this game and really come up with something we'll enjoy playing.

Just my personal take on it overall.

Quick note on the memory leaks...they are awsome !! ...in a bad way...I set my page file to 3000 to 4000 and after playing for an hour or so quit and restart. If not the game gets all laggy and unstable .


And here's what I am running it on .


Petium d dual 3.00 ghz proc.

2000 gb ram

Nvida Ge force 7800 gtx.( 256 ram )

I should say without question I should experiance NO framrate issues . with this game ...its obsolete or obsolecent..but the memory leak is a problem ..hence the Page file..but it should NEVER have to use it...think on that for a second.

This is the same rig I play TES Oblivion on at full specs with 36 mods running without a hitch.

Along with BF 2

and Civ IV ( memory leak ? the mother of all memory leak games ) . Warlords...

Think of a graphics intense game and I think I own it or play it..( my son and brother are the FPS guys ) .
