Ship descriptions from navies around XV-XVI centuries

mAIOR

Landlubber
Just wondering if anyone knows of a site wich contains detailed descriptions of ships and major navies from this time period?
I found one that has only ships from the 18th century and it's not very detailed (http://www.histofig.com/naval/)

Thx in advance...

Cheers...

Tell me, my good sir, does this help at all? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Don't know of any web site, but a book that may help you is "The Story of Sail", by Veres Laszlo and Richard Woodman. This book is published by the Naval Institute Press. The book covers the 6000 year history of sailing ships. It also contains 1000 scale drawings of different ships. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Thanks for your replies. I shall aquire that book as soon as I find it for sale... rpobably I'll have to order it but still that's ok.
But it does sound a little generic... isn't tere anything that covers only the wooden ships pirate age??

As a wooden ship modeler, I have a large number of books pertaining to wooden ships. These books pertain to the ships I have built over the years. However, I do not have a book that covers any particular time period other than the one I mentioned. You may have to look for a specific book on a ship you are interested in. Historical or even ship modeling books (ship specific) should give you plenty of information on wooden ships. I have built may scratch models and these books were invaluable. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
