Ship Graphics

I have noticed That graphic wise the ships look the same I.E. the textures as they did in Potc. what saddens me the most though is how much better the graphics look in the modes while you are fighting or while there is a cut scene. The cannons look great, you can see details in the wood etc... but when you cut back to your own ship everything goes back to being bland. so what are the chances of a mod that will use the nice graphic textures that are clearly in the game....this is kinda a sore spot for me I really expected some nicer textures on the ships. when I first started the game and saw the cut scene I thought wow these graphics are alot nicer all the way until I actually got on the actual ship.

Things like that are in the cards already, mate. Just a matter of time now and I am sure the modding scene for CoAS will explode here.

Sure hope so

One thing I have noticed, and was sorry to see, is that, in deck view, there's no crew wandering around on deck, fiddling with cannons, or climbing the rigging! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> It seems to be a repeat of the ghost ships you sail in stock POTC. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Does anyone know - is this a permanent thing, or a bug?

I was wondering the same thing...it is definately possible for them to be there. In one short instance I glitched the game so that I could see the crew walking around on my ship in first person view. The only thing I can think of is that I boarded the enemy ship while in first person, captured it, swapped it as my main ship, and after leaving the capture menu it set me on the enemy ship in first person with crew and everything. As soon as I changed views they disappeared and everything went back to normal....lonely normal <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

From what I understand, the empty 1st person decks are not a bug, though Captain Hawk fixed that in his Smuggler Mod.

That should just be a toggle, similar to how it was fixed in AoP. I haven't investigated yet, but was assuming thats all that would be needed to fix it.

Was a one-line modification in PotC too. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

The reason cutscenes and boarding battles take place on a much nicer looking decks is that these are generic, non-specific decks, hence why they look nice but nothing like your ship. While in 1st person sailing mode you're walking on the actual 3D model of the ship... which <strike>looks great</strike> used to look great five years ago from 3rd person view but like crap up close.

As for crew, I prefer to sail a ghost ship. The primary purpose of 1st person, at least for me, is to aim the cannons. Visible crew tends to interfere with that.

I wouldn't mind having crew walking around on my decks...

Does anyone know the line of code that needs to be changed?

Found this yesterday.

Started messing arround with some textures. The battleship reminds me a lot of the Ingermanland, so I started re-texturing it.

Very early in the process, here's the stern:

<a href="http://img41.imageshack.us/i/ingermanland1.png/" target="_blank"><img src="http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/8154/ingermanland1.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a>
Actual in game scale

<a href="http://img199.imageshack.us/i/ingermanland2.png/" target="_blank"><img src="http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/9276/ingermanland2.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a>

More to come, time permitting! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Thank you!

Think this is most I can do for today, errands to run.

I am an architect, so 3D modeling and texturing are skills I like to hone <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />

Few more previews, tweaking the hull still more, really want to make the side of the cabin stand out too <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

<a href="http://img36.imageshack.us/i/95091202.png/" target="_blank"><img src="http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/8427/95091202.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a>

Wow! keep up the good work! I'll follow this one closely <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> The stern is great!

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

VERY nice work! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

One suggestion, though, if I may - adding another stripe of blue just above the uppermost line of cannons might make the ship look a little less boxy. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Thank you!

That will be following, building the hull from the bottom up. The side of the cabin will have a lot of detail, like the stern, so that will be last.

On a related note, anyone know how to edit ship stats? I want to make this puppy fun to sail since it is going to look so freaking good when it's done <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

You'll have to make it a unique ship, then apply the models and the textures to it, and add a little quest in which they sell it or a proper fight-for-it quest ^^.

Great work by the way <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />.

(If im not mistaken XD)

Ship types are defined in \program\ships\ship.h

Ship stats are defined in \program\ships\ships_init.c

images for ships are defined in \resource\ini\interfaces\pictures.ini

There might be one or two other files that I'm not remembering.

Those however are the main files used to add and modify ships.

Hope that helps,

Correct me if im wrong...

If you modify ships.h you modify them all... I mean, even randomly generated...

He'd be more interested in ships_init.c so he makes it a unique ship, otherwise all ships would have his model/texture and stats...

Am i wrong?

Ships.h is actually where you create the ship types such as corvette, lugger, man '0 war or even the unique ships. A ship must be defined in the .h file to even be able to be generated in the game.

Ships_init.c is where the base stats are delineated for each of these ship types. All ship types MUST have a set of initial stats to be able to function correctly in the game.
