Ship model modify-addvertexes,&howtoskin

Capt. Daniel Wolf

Freebooter
Storm Modder
Im thinking to modify some stock ships ingame. Do you know, how can I do it, to not kill the current texture laying, and how to add different textures for the additions ? I work with max 7 . How can I convert the ships into editable format, with Inez's tool? If I put additional polys, how i texturize them, to appear ingame well?

ALSO:
ANyone knows a way, to add better resolution textures to the stock ships?
AND:
Do you know coloured close distance photos or good pictures about frigates, galleons, corvettes etc.?
I need realistic looking windows, planking, ropes. I can paint the texture, but first need a photo-like realistic basic.

Thanks!

The Wolf

If you convert a ship's texture file to .tga using the TX Converter, you can increase the size of the .tga file by resizing the texture to 200% of it's original size. Then make your new texture and convert it to .tga.tx again. That should make for a sharper texture. You can change the texturename your ship's model uses with a <a href="http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delphi/freeware/xvi32/xvi32.htm#download" target="_blank">HEX Editor</a> with which you can open the .gm file and change the texture name. You have to use the same number of characters for the new texture name as the old texture name had tough. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

what file do i need to open and where to find it

You'll find it in the Pirates of the carribean/RESOURCE/TEXTURES folder, you need to find the textures via TX Converter, and convert it in a tga, then you can work on it, when your work is done, use TX Converter again to reconvert it in tga.tx and use it to put it at the right place to replace your old texture. Have fun! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/type_1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":nk" border="0" alt="type_1.gif" />

tx converter dont need to i already fond 1

Ok, any of U can tell me, how to add polys to stock ships with 3dsmax 7, without ruining the model, and how to give them textures? (i mean how to texturize the new polys, example, (I now it unrealistic... But what if i play in the 1770's? ) a ship wheel. Or a sitting parrot on the deck ) I dont want to modify the step file, so, the guy can freely go though these new polys i just want to experiment with new polys and texturing yet.

And, any of you know some good frigate window pictures? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

It looks like from the 30-40 3d modellers of POST build no one wants to help, (because I doubt they all using maya instead of 3dsmax)

thnks... I got support from ALL the guys here, (Im not kidding, thank you all!!) except modellers. I did modified characters, even a ship now succesfully, but i still dont know the rules, and 'how-to' about adding TOTALLY NEW polys to potc models, and how to texturize them! because If I add a poly to a model, Its using the models own texture but in a mixed up way. So I need some detailed info about 3dsmax 7, and details mean: how to obey the model rules of POTC in 3dsmax modelling also... I figured out all the stuff of modelling myself, but I think I can have some help now....
You guys, who did new character models, knows all the rules of this. Why cant we spare time on this? If someone asks me, what I did figure out, I help the way I can.

By the way, added wheel, compass,n' bell to a stock corvette, and finished the tailor version of my model.
Look for the post starting with 'Maybe, yes <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> !!'

AFAIK, there is no one here who has re-modeled character gms.
What I do is re-skin them, working from existing skins.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> ironically, a very good lad wrote me a post, who dont even know this topic exist. Hes Capitan Caceres, and he usually model forts. So, I have a matey now, who helped with uvw mapping, unwrapping.
But, he needs help with texturing models, so please help him if you can <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

But thanks, Petros!

For all I know, there is no specific way in which you have to texture in 3DS MAX for it to work in PotC. Inzane's Surprise is textured in quite a different way than most ships in PotC, but the Surprise still works fine. try to not add more textures than the game can handle (eg. try to keep the total texture size reasonable, say 2048x2048 at the most). Judging by the Surprise, you can use multiple textures for one model, but try not to use too many. Also: Please use .tga textures, just like the game's textures. I don't know if the game would read .bmp.tx files or something like that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

If you have any texturing/modeling troubles, feel free to ask. Although I haven't modeled in 3D for over a year because 3DS MAX refuses to work, I still might have some knowledge about it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> I start to think, that you 'might have some knowledge' about everything I need to know! Youre a skillful captain, thats for sure, matey! Thanks, I let you know if I have some question

Best Wishes
