FAIR WINDS!

YEAH NOT THAT CRASH HOT!

Its kinda nice, but limited play on the demo... Does anyone know any sailing games that are like realistic?

Virtual Sailor is good. You can sail with any type of ships and the program costs only $25. Plus a new version is to be released on very short notice (the programmer sent me an e-mail saying he'd release a new version today). The program costs money, but all add-ons (so far) are free. You can download a lot from Virtual Sailor Net and the ships I made for Virtual Sailor are available from my old site, The Virtual Sailor Shipyard.

Real sailing is awesome, though terrifying at night during a storm, especially if you're the only captain and crew and your GPS messes up. I mean a one manned (or womanned) vessel. Quite a rush, my hat's off to the men and women that have gotten over their fears and sailed around the world alone. But hey, life is about living not existing. Well that's my thoughts anyhow.

I was going to sail out into the Pacific in a sailboat alone a few years ago, but I hit a rough storm, no prob, I got over that, but the next morning I had an accident and cut a huge gash in my leg while I was working on something. Those hobby knives can be dangerous. I wish I hadn't given up on sailing. But I bought a ticket to Tuvalu. I sold the boat, but at the airport in Vancouver the American customs guy wouldn't let me go through Los Angeles for some reason. I had to go, Vancouver-Los Angeles-New Zealand-Tuvalu. Anyways, I settled for south America instead and bypassed the USA and went through Mexico.

Well anyways, I'm on a rant.

Thats quite a story me matey, what type of boat did u have? And how did u cut ye leg? Would love to hear your sea tales!

I can't remember exactly Kub, it's been awhile ago now. But I do remember it was a Catalina 22', built in 1970's. It used a ballast tank rather than a deep wing keel for stabillity, which made it able to sail in shallow water, which was nice, but a bit more tipsy out in rough weather. It also had a retractable stabilizer keel fin. I did some searches on the net and found what mine looked like.
This is a diagram:

This is a photo of one at sail:

And this is one in port:

Oh yeah, while under power, you could easilly lower the mast to get under bridges and what-not. The marina I launbched from had a swivel rail bridge though, so two blasts from the signal horn and the guy would open the bridge.

Thats one damn fine boat you got thar! Thats wat my dad wants, and i want something like that aswell now!

I HAD one like that. I sold it. I guess that what was I am regretting. I never should have. Hey, if you get one, tell me I'll teach you all it's quirks, good and bad. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Hahah it will be a while till i have enough money to get one, i first wanna get a lil dingy and stick a mast on it and just sail around the river... that my plan for next year...or maybe 2. Once i finish uni and get settled im goin to get a nice one maybe a bit bigger then that, do u think its possible to live in one lie that for a while? Would beat having a house...

Houses suck. They sit around and if you want to go anywhere, you have to worry about your house. The best way to live from my experience would be in a nice boat or a nice camper. That way if you need to move, or just want to, you pull up the anchor and go to your next port-o-call. Of course sailing would be a better way, you'll never run out of "fuel"
