Ships and skills

Long John

Landlubber
Ahoy, I've just begun playing POTC again with the wonderful build of course, but i cant help wondering, which skill affect how big a boat you can sail? When I look at ships in the Shipwright the bigger boats says skill too low, which skill would that be?

Thanks a billion lads

You can also change settings in Buildsettings.h (Mainfolder) and Internalsettings.h
(Programfolder) to your liking! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

yeah, as I said, it is skill based. But the thing I don't understand is which skill it is. is it leadership or sailing or some completely other skill???? or is it levelbased???

and grappling skills as that makes capturing ships a bit easier and increasing your
perks helps too. Following the mainquest by completing the capture of Oxbay and playing the sidequests
will get you promoted!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

it's your level that decides it for as far as i know. getting better reputation with a nation when you have a letter of marque gets you the even bigger ships.

It's based on the level that you are at. The individual stats don't have anything to do with it. I was looking at the code though, and it appears that for certain ships, you have to get a promotion from a country in order to buy. At least, that is what the code appeared to have meant, I could be wrong. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Morgan and Doober are right.

In Build 13 with #define SY_RPG_STYLE 1 in the BuildSettings.h file you by ships only according to your level. As your level goes up, so does your ability to purchase higher class ships.

In Build 14 I believe Pieter added the restriction that certain ships would only be available form nation shipyards if you were in the service of that nation and had achieved certain ranks in that nation's navy.

aye! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate_plain.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p3" border="0" alt="pirate_plain.gif" />

That is right. This only applies to big navy ships though and is only an issue in the Build 14 Alpha version. You can turn off that limitation in BuildSettings.h or tweak it in InternalSettings.h.
