Ships I am working on.

Here are some ships I have been working on in my spare time, the first one is the Brigantine as its my favourite ship so I copied it adjusted the ropes and rigging, placed the boat at the rear of ship and also added a wheel and bell. I also managed to fix the gaff swinging too much by splitting the rey into a3 and a4 and placing the lower sail on a3 and the upper on a4. I was planning on making this a pirate ship like the Privateer so I am thinking of what to call it, I have called it so far Pirate Brigantine, Privateer Brigantine and Ex-Privateer but any suggestions would be welcome.

Next I have used the Lugger CT hull and made a Runner (smuggling ship), there are two versions with different sail plans. These are to be fast, maneuverable have good cargo capacity and small crew, I have based their sail plans on a cutter.

Excellent stuff there mate! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> Keep it up!

really nice, but there's two (possible) flaws i've noticed:

how's the wheel supposed to work? it's only attached to a pole now.

is't it so that the mizzen gaffs of the brigantine have a boom in the middle of the mast EACH? right now they're sharing one. i think it should be more like with the mast of the sloop.

The wheel is from an AOP ship, I suppose I could add some rope to it similar to the Black Pearl also the rigging is the same as the Brigantine already in game except that the ratlines have been moved forward. I am no expert but I have looked around and there are a few rig variations and this one is more like an Hermophrodite Brig.

I have been doing some research on Brigantine's and have found that the Brigantine in game is indeed a Hermaphrodite Brig, check this page out for some interesting stuff: <a href="http://www.ships.jbc.gen.nz/shipages/rigs.htm" target="_blank">http://www.ships.jbc.gen.nz/shipages/rigs.htm</a>

It would appear that a Brigantine is very similar to a Brig apart that it has the trisails between the masts and possibly the bottom sail on the main mast removed.

Regards,

VERY nice, SeaNorris! I had been wondering if you were still working on that Brigantine. I like it! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

take a look at the bermuda sloop wheel. that one's a perfect example.

ah, i see. the top gaff is furled up against the mast WITHOUT having the boom for extra support. i guess it would be easier to use without the extra boom. if you look closely at some of the ships, you can just make the boom out. (note: the big picture doesn't HAVE a top gaff. therefore no boom in any case) the big three-masted schooner is a good example of the double boom.

I have now replaced the wheel with the Bermuda Sloop's wheel, it looks a lot better now. I am in the process of adding two anchors to the ship (with cat heads) and also adjusting/fixing the rigging.

yes, that's good! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> just out of interest, what are catheads?

Catheads are two beams extending from the ships bow used to hoist the anchor to.

A brigantine with a wheel? ME WANTY! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />

I suggest we adapt this model and let every brig use this, with it's previous texture ofcourse. I like it SeaNorris, mighty fine job. Really Liked the Runner with the big mainsail.

Would be nice to have the higher detail model used on as many ships as possible. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

aha. i noticed the interceptor lost one while it dropped it's anchor to turn. i'm totally for applying this to every brig or variation of it, although it looks like i'll never actually get one in-game.

Really nice work. Wow, I'm in awe of the models you guys create. The variety of ships in this game is wonderful and really makes it come alive.

one thing i've noticed though:

isn't the second runner without the square sails exactly the same as the cutter?

EDIT: nope, it's not. this one is of far better quality.

I have finished the catheads and attached the rope to the anchor, the rope doesn't look great althought the knots are still intact and aligned properly. The ropes and pulleys are from Kazeite's Black Pearl I hope he doesn't mind <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I don't. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

the pulleys attaching the shrouds to the boards. that help? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />
