The SOTL or Large Frigate is definately the best for plundering. Usually is has been my experience that it is best to have only a single ship for speed on the main map. And both the frigates and the SOTL is by my experience about as fast as the sloops. The bonus of the bigger ship is the added crew and more guns. You can easily get the other ships to give up without a swordfight when you have an overwhelming ## of crew on you ship. It is also easier to keep few ships than many, especially when u get a bounty of about 100k from the spanish as I have. They send alot of pirate hunters after you, and having trailing ships sucks ass then.

When you have big ships with lots of crew it is also easier to sack cities, and this is where the real money is. Some wealthy ports can be sacked a few times for 10k gc each time. And then u can go to some local settlements and escort new govanors and settlers there to reestablish their wealth.

The brigs suck IMO. They are slower than frigates and generally suck more.

I am gonna start a new game soon... the first one I tried to get a good score and so far my best score is 112 fame. I am just missing a few treasures and the spanish titles.

arr

I like sloop best <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

As I recall, when I got my SotL, the very first thing I did to test it out was to aim at a ridiculously small ship and blast it clean out of the water with one broadside. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> I then realized it was just not much fun to sink 'em like that, nor much profit to it - so back to board and plunder for me... But it sure is funny to make one `well-aimed` broadside completely obliterate a ship. Gawd... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Heheheh. I got my SOTL when i left St. Eustasius bound for Trinidad. It was a Dutch SOTL bieng escorted by a Large Frigate. the fact that i was already a dutch admiral didnt sway me one moment from turning my own Frigate to and taking them both heheheheh. Just made sure i sacked trinidad, installed a Dutch governor, then raided the Spanish Main in the name of opressed dutch everywhere before returning to port. Kept the governor off my back for taking the SOTL lol.

I always all kinds of ships in game, but Raymondo's War Galleons are good. So I do not neet to improve them anymore. Frigate is okay as well. A good war Brigg is ok too.

So long

Pokerface

have to say i'm liking the Royal Sloop.

plenty of guns and bl00min quick and great handling,

run rings around all them slow galleons <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

Royal Sloop everytime

Greetings swabs, the Royal Sloop does it for me day in ay out, getting some major kills with this little terror of a ship <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Only downside, can come undone when facing a bigger ship with more guns on harder levels, 40 cannons can hurt this little sloop, I choose to run everytime. (live to fight another day) <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Cheers <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

<!--`QuoteBegin-jpinard`+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(jpinard)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Catalina, where'd you get your SOTL?[/quote]IIRC, I was sailing for England, against the French and the Spanish, and I was near Santo Domingo. I was playing at Adventurer, probably ranked at Baron, and my ship was smaller (think it might have been a Royal Sloop). I had triple hammocks, and probably about 200 men, and the SOTL was French - sailing with only about 80 men. Heh. It was disappointingly easy, but maaan, sweet ship... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

No, it was not a treasure ship.

Excellent, Santo Domingo is gertting a fat X on my map <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

The area around Santa Domingo round San Juan and down to Kitts and Nevis is often littered with Frigates, the occasional big frigate, and in that lucky ladies case a Ship Of the Line <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" /> You also find a nice helping of French brigs of war, a handy second escape/cargo ship if you can't manage two frigates or a royal sloop and frigate <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />

Thanks for the tip

Okay will have to go fishing around there, I always wanted a SOTL, mind you I don't fancy my chances in a 20 gun royal sloop. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" />

Cheers <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Just make sure your well enough manned and with the wind and boarding becomes the easiest way to knab a mint condition Ship of your Choice <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Yup, good advice, Duckbeard! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

I have to go with the Royal Sloop or Sloop of War. Both sweet ships. Currently I'm running with a Fast Galleon though just for a change. Got four Trade Galleons in tow and making tons of money running trade routes.

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

I ran into my first SoTL when playing the 1600 campaign on Journeyman difficulty. I was working for the French and hanging around the Havana area giving the Spanish such a spanking like they'd never seen. I'd say it was about a year into the game when an English SoTL appeared on the horizon. Well, I was spanking England's butt too, so decided to press my luck and take her out. My Sloop ran circles around it and fired grape shots until I had her crew down to about 60. Rammed, boarded, got me an SoTL.

My favourite is definitely a fully upgraded Ship of the Line (third and most powerful ship of the Frigate family). Boasting 48 cannons, fast speed and decent maneuvering, this baby can send absolutely ANYTHING to Davey Jones' Locker if you're an excellent tactician and navigator, too.

Unmatched, completely unmatched. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

Large Frigate of Captain Morgan's! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

As for sinking.... Yeah, I sing French ships on sight. Spanish and Dutch I capture.

DIE FRENCHY, DIE!!! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/diomed.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dio" border="0" alt="diomed.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

They are rare, jpinard, keep trying. You'll notice her immediately, she's about the biggest thing on the map. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />
