Small annoyance

Bayoh

Landlubber
First off, would like to say I went bargain bin searching for PotC just so I could play with this mod. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I'm enjoying it immensely, but one tiny bugs(or least I think it's a bug) annoys me. I cannot seem to open the status interface while on the world map. Is it supposed to be like this? I redownloaded/reinstalled the mod but I continued to have the problem. I also tried changing the key it was bound to, to a different key in a text file under programs/controls, but that didn't help either. So does anyone know what the problem might be?

Other than that tiny issue I'm having, the mod is absolutely incredible! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> bayoh,

I'm not shure but I don't think you ever could. If I'm wrong than I'm sorry. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> I've been playing this game since the time it came out -but- THIS GREAT site has come out with so many mods I don't even remember what the stock game was like. Someone here will give you a definite answer though, this is the best forum on the web with the BEST members, you'll see.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Bayoh and welcome to our corner of the Caribbean

From the world map the only thing you can access is the main menu through the "F1" key

Then you can get the options screen, or do things like load or save a game, quit or start a new game.

Are you talking about the main menu (F1) or the status screen of your character, ship, quests etc. (F2)?

The main menu can be opened by pressing F1 at any time in the game, as Petros said; but the status screen cannot be opened while on the world map. Not now in the build, and not before in stock game.

Oh, and <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Bajoh - have a pleasant stay here on the forums <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> !

We once tried to make it so that you can open the F2 screen on the worldmap, but we didn't manage. If you want to open the F2 screen while on the worldmap, just go into 3D sailing mode by pressing Space, then open it. It isn't exactly what you want, but it's probably the closest you can get. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

It's a bit annoying when you want to change the flag for example but then again - it's not a big problem - just try to do everything you need while in a port.

You can do it at open sea. Just go into 3D sailing mode using the Spacebar.

Yea, I know that, but as you know I have too long loading times and I can't afford waiting that long just to change the flag <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

you could also land at a beach to avoid the enemy fort. it's pretty interesting with a small ship at high difficulty as you are trying to sneak past the big enemy ships to get to the beach and then sneak into town. then, you still have to get away from the island, when you are possibly spotted in the meantime, and you will probably have to escape the island in a black pearl vs. interceptor kinda style, dumping stuff overboard to stay ahead of the enemy, hoping that the fort on the other island comes into sight before they manage to catch up with you, taking into account that you must make it as you even dumped the food and ammo overboard to stay ahead. (in fact, i once actually did have to do this. it was a pretty awsome experience! fortunatly, i just managed to stay ahead by half a knot with everything dumped overboard)

Thanks for the replies!

But wow that's strange that the status window(F2) was never meant to be opened in the world map. It's even in the control options in-game and mapped in the ini_pc file for controls... or that might be leftover code from when you guys were trying to implement it hehe.

lol and the reason I asked was what Admiral HRM said. =D It's annoying for when you need to make that quick flag change before you enter port. More than a couple times I entered open sea mode to change the flag as you said, only to realize I was still in range of the local fort's cannons. My poor sloop! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Anyways, I want to thank this seemingly small, but talented modding community for doing an incredible job modding this game! The Buildmod has done the same thing as Rome: Total Realism did for the game Rome: Total War, made the game 100x better!

Cheers! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

So dumping things increases your speed?? Man, everyday I ¸learn something new about this game, although I've been playing it for a couple of years now...

Hope you'll enjoy staying and posting on the forums Bajoh <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

Yes, it does. That's one of the Build features. You can dump cargo in the F2>Cargo Hold screen.

you can also choose to dump a specific amount. beware though: there is no prompt if you really want to dump the stuff, so only click the button if you are absolutely sure!

I think it should. As long as your total cargo weight decreases... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

well, it does, as i thankfully found out. having all those really big ships on your tail can make you pretty deserate for speed at times! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> i actually made a new speed record of 46.7 knots by doing that.

approx. 38 knots. i was sailing in a bermuda sloop (speed: 18 knots at 15 knots windspeed. all ship sppeds you can see in the shipyard are measured by 15 knots windspeed, as i found out), with increase sailing speed ability, and no cargo at all.

by the way, i wasn't exaggerating in cannonades and long guns (or whatever the topic's called), as i explained in my latest post there.

here's my post from that topic:

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->
no! look into cannons_init. i don't know where exactly, but i definatly saw that forts can have 68 pound cannons. i'll look up the piece of code in the file.

here it is!

// Even bigger, even scarier fort guns
makeref(rCannon,Cannon[CANNON_TYPE_CARRONADE_LBS68]);
rCannon.type = CANNON_NAME_CARRONADE;
rCannon.caliber = 68;
rCannon.ReloadTime = 125; // LDH was 240
rCannon.Weight = 72;
rCannon.Cost = 5000;
rCannon.sound = ("cannon_fire_CR68");//JRH
rCannon.gunpowder = 6;// added by MAXIMUS [gunpowder mod]
rCannon.FireAngMax = 1.0;
rCannon.FireAngMin = 1.0;
rCannon.DamageMultiply = 6.0;
rCannon.TradeOff = true;
InitBaseCannons_CalcSpeedV0(&rCannon,1280.0*CANNON_RANGE_SCALAR);
rCannon.Dispersion.X = CARRONADE_DISPERSION_MULT;
rCannon.Dispersion.Y = CARRONADE_DISPERSION_MULT;
rCannon.Dispersion.V = CARRONADE_DISPERSION_MULT;
n++;

see!

FACT: 2 68 pound cannons where used on the victory, called the 'smashers' and where stuffed with 200 musket bullets to fire at the enemy crew at a range of 300 yards.

by the way, i DID use build 8.9 for a short while. i found it on fileplanet when i was looking for the build, before i found this forum. i didn't work though. i couldn't even finish the tutorial.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

If the loading time wasn't so long, 60 sec. plus sometimes, this would be easier done than said.

This was not a problem pre 13, but with Build 13 loading times in and out of map mode are problematic.

Edit:
For other builds it wasn't a problem but for 13 the memory.mp hurts performance.
I thought I had it remeoved but still had a renamed backup of Memory.mp file.
Perhaps the game looks for that mp extension.

Anyway, with this removed as well, there no lag in going in and out of map mode, and only a small lag in saving a game at sea.

My problem was solved by deleting the memory.mp file.

If anyone has unusually long loading times, try to delete the file written above and see if anything changed!

P.S. Morgan, I've just earned the Master Mariner title <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />
