So frustrating....Layton Dexter quest

Well, I see it's placed randomly because I was searching for it for about two hours, covered all of the ships except the clans' ships and finally found it on the bow of the San Augustine i.e. Admiral's very ship. I made the changes to have it look like a sword and still couldn't see it. Luckily I saw the hand icon appear.

Found the key within 3 minutes of turning on the locator. It was on the bow of the admiral's ship.

Advice for keyhunters: If you use the locator, only look for purple bubbles. They indicate items.

The bow o' de Admiral's ship be seemin' like a good first place to be lookin', since at least 3 folks so far has found dat blasted key thar!

The locator also works great for finding that pesky cog underwater.

I also found Admiral's key at bow of his ship. But first afterwards since long having left the "isle" of ships, and missed that sub quest. I missed it because 1) thought
it had size of first simple key found on wreck at Admiral's ship and 2) didn't know
there were just two days to find it - so I looked for it sporadically all the remaining time there.

But if knowing this in advance, I think no cheat should be needed finding it - by some reloads and focusing on the hand symbol detecting find instead of hoping spotting it.

My key was in the middle of the corvette (the ship where you kill the carpenter). Went at least 3 times over this place untill I gave up and turned it in a ladder.

In the COAS CM V2, the keys have been given the emerald texture instead of the original sword texture it once used (why a sword I don't know). I've never gotten this quest yet or even made it to COAS, can anyone provide a screenshot of what the keys look like in-game?

I hope in making the keys green it will help everyone with this quest.

I don't know that,but I can tell you how to find this goddamn key!
Save game before you get the message for the lost key and search the protector.If the key is not there,reload and search again.With not many reloads you will find it.
