Some odd russian stuff

Hello all!

I was wandering around yesterday, and, starting from thelib.com I found some old russian stuff, such as new locations (probably extracted from Seadogs I), and new interface screens like a stats board (giving the number of towns you took, the number of ships you sunk, a bit like in Sid Meier's Pirates).

Do you think we could use it, in new islands, or for other things, and without running the risk of new glitches, especially about the interface mods?
Those mods have at least 3 or 4 years.

Do you also thinks we have the rights to use it? Who must we ask?

AlexusB gace us permission to use any of their old SLiB stuff, but I'm not sure whether that applies here. In any case there's some real good stuff there and I'd love to be able to use that. Perhaps one of our amazing coders, such as Pirate_KK or Maximus, could work this into the game?
 
Hmm just saw that, i'll made some mistakes with the links, i've difficulties with the russian, i can't manage to find alexus files, those i put on the ftp, "A&M pack" were not the good ones, i think they're on that link, but i can't get them! <a href="http://arc.com.ru/alex/pkm_ma2.exe" target="_blank">http://arc.com.ru/alex/pkm_ma2.exe</a>

As far my knowledge of Russian language permits, from those pages which are available I made a conclusion that those files were quite old, from the end of 2003. On the first screenshot at <a href="http://seadog2.narod.ru/addon_a_m.htm" target="_blank">http://seadog2.narod.ru/addon_a_m.htm</a> there's a version number visible in the lowest right corner for that ALexusB&Morgan addon: "Add-on 'Korsary A&M' v0.9.0611":

I found something like this: <a href="http://legend.seaward.ru/links.htm?uselink=81" target="_blank">http://legend.seaward.ru/links.htm?uselink=81</a>, which has version no. 1.06.0124 - but that's called only "Sea Legend is Back" Addon. However, I suspect that this is simply further continuation of 'Korsary A&M' mod, so there's a chance that things which were present in currently unavailable files will be here.

One should download all *.slb files (data1.slb, data2.slb & data3.slb) as well as setup.rar. Additionally, Russian fonts (which looks like 'Русские шрифты'), tool for town model installation ('Утилита инсталяции моделей городов(266Кб)' - I'm not sure if I translated that one correctly) and resources for towns ('Ресурсы городов (23Мб)'). The last link ('Шлюпка у берега (850Кб)') means Boat near shore - further description suggests that sailors are sitting in that boat, which means that it's something we already have in Build.

Till now I didn't find anything else in the matter of russian mods.

The .slb files are simply the Sea Legend is Back (SLiB) mod files that we've indeed known about forever. We've put most of the RESOURCE files into the Build and the code is hidden away in the MODULES folder so that we can do nothing with that. We had rather hoped that in those old files, the code would be available in the PROGRAM folder so that we might add it into the game. I understood from Seb that there is some code that allows you to talk with the captains of all friendly ships; now I would REALLY like that in our game! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />
 
I didn't know that. It's really a problem then.

That's clear now why AlexusB gave permission to use parts of his mod for Build. He simply had confidence that because of the closed structure of his mod we won't be able to make much use of it.

@Pieter: if you want some interesting mod you can supply a detailed description how it works and I'd try to make it. However, because of all those bugs and instabilities in current version of the Build, as well as my yet unfinished mods, this will be of course so called "long-term-project" - similarily as merging Maximus mod...

In this particular case: do I understand correctly that you can talk with captains of friendly/neutral ships when moving from sea to captain cabin of their ship (I mean something like Maximus done with talking with surrendering enemy captains)? What are they talking about in there?

I never really played any of the Russian mods, because I do not understand Russian one bit. Seb showed me two screenshots though where you could select the "row to ship" option in 3D sailing mode, then select the ship you wanted to talk to. A bit like the Instant Boarding ability, only with friendly ships instead. Another Russian mod keeps track of the amount and types of ships you've sunk.

The idea would be to copy the Instant Boarding ability and rewrite it so that it can work for all ships in 3D sailing mode. We might even make it apply to enemy pirate ships as well so that you can parlay about surrendering terms. Also I think that based on certain variables (your personal and crew strength, reputation, fame, etc.) the other ship's captain should be able to deny your request. Then when the captain does allow you to come and talk, you would be teleported to the other ship's deck and you could talk with the captain, perhaps dine with him or talk with the crew. You would be able to exchange news and rumours (this would be especially interesting if there's changing nation relations and you don't know about it until you talk to someone), exchange supplies (if you really need supplies, for example) or when talking to the crew, perhaps trying to entice them to start a mutiny or so. Perhaps even get yourself a mission to escort the other ship back home (they encountered a pirate and only just managed to escape and don't want to take any chances for the remainder of the voyage). I played a bit with what i found, i installed files where the main change i saw was a jack sparrow model for main character, and a new icon at sea, and icon with two crossed sword, but want i tried to select it, nothing happened.

Are there any changes in the PROGRAM folder that you can find? Could you do a WinMerge compare on the original PROGRAM folder and your modified game version?
 
Hi.
This may have been added in more recent builds, but it would be really good if you could surrender yourself, if against overwhelming odds, they would take your cash, most of your crew, your goods, weapons etc. Then maybe even if they were pirates you might have to escape the brig.
I would try and learn to do this myself, but I'm busy.

PS. I'm sorry that I have had a bit of a break from POTC, but am about to continue with my Hornblower mod, which has been gathering dust, somewhere in my documents.

We didn't add a mod to surrender yourself yet. Sounds like a lot of work and we don't really have any coders to spare on anything new. We need to finish our old WIP stuff first. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />
 
I found the model of one of those mods that are featered in that movie! It is only the main model, so no lighting and no patch <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> but it uses textures from POTC

Could someone crack the password or send a message to mithridat to ask if he gives us the password?
 
i'd love to say i could, but i can't. not if there's not a program that can do that.
 
There is, but that is months of work for a computer to crack such a password.

Here is a picture of the model. We could make .COL files ourselves but I have no idea of how to make an patch for it properly
