He gets this error message when trying to reply to a topic.

I don't know; I'll ask. As far as I understand, it does that ALL the time, also when trying to send PMs and such.

He says: nope it isn't a locked one that i tried to reply to, but the same screen does keep coming up

I had a look at his membership in the backend and there is nothing wrong at all.

Other new member can post as far as I know so I would suggest he register gain and we can just trandsfer the settings over.

He already has two usernames; neither of them works.

Had the same problem some time back and as a consequence there is a Nosie_old in this here forum! Had to reregister under a different name, password and Email address! Fred Bob changed my name back to my previous one!
