Sparrow Sought - 13 Final & 13 Full + Update 3

I dunno. I could upload them to the Build FTP or add them to the ModDB Profile. Would take ages to upload though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

So once I've had my fill of plunder from 13 I'll get a version of 14 and from there see what I'm able to do about modding, hopefully in January I will have time to get learning.

My idea's about mods must be on the right track because alot of things I would have added to stock POTC had I been able, have already been added, extra locations/ships and playing on after the final battle go without saying I think most people knew that the game needed these things, the different grades of weapons, gunpowder and food/rum is something I had thought about before finding the mod, so that was a nice suprise.

Something that I haven't seen is needing fruit to prevent the crew getting Scurvy which was a commmon disease at sea, not sure how this would work or indeed if it would work, suffice to say the idea's are already there, just not the modding knowledge.

Anyway I think I'm causing this forum to stray off topic so I'll quit while I'm ahead <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Edit: for some reason I'm having trouble with the forums alot of things keep not working such as quotes

i think the fruit mod was being worked on by someone. i don't remember who it was though.

Simply fixed. You were missing the [ opening the quote statement.

Scurvy and fruit are not yet added. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" />

At least it is being worked on, from you saying this it lets me know that my idea's are along the right track so as soon as the fun is finished I'll learn what I can about modding and see what I can come up with, I'd like to add my own ships but until then I can concentrate on playing and finding bugs, which compared to Stock are very few and far between.

i think pieter once mentioned there are 300 ships. i guess that includes all nation's designs. how many did you say there where?

No work has yet been done as far as I'm aware.

I have got 153 unique ship models in my RESOURCE\MODELS\Ships folder right now.

300 did seem a little over the top to me. still 153 is a terrific amount. is that with or without the nation-specific stats?

Without. Solely the unique ship models. So that is 153 unique ships with different looks.

so that's 918 ships WITH the nation-specific stats. actually less. some ships are only for the pirates.

No complaints about our number of ships, are there? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" /> I have no idea what so ever!

When the screen froze, it reminded me of similar experiences in build 14a6 + updates, when pressing spacebar to initiate a dialogue with someone too close to the peer immediate upon landing - usually at Conceicao.

This time however, I had performed a series of actions/dilogues previous to the crash f.ex. : picked up an item in the crate behind dockhouse on the right of the traders, then traded some items.

I didn't adress the guy! I pressed spacebar to enter the city! I would be guessing if I said the guy could have been adressing me that very moment.
Truth is I don't know. Thats why I have also posted the long compile log to the bugtracker.
My play was to head for the town (wanted to see the blacksmith), intentionally ignoring the crowd (I have had the Jolly Rogers up a couple of times and wouldn't risk socializing...). At town gate I have pressed to enter upon appearence of the the access icon.
The frozen screen appeared actually upon emerging on the city side of the gate. Then it stayed on until I have rebooted ctrl-alt-delete. While in that state all function keys were disabled except for spacebar allowing entrances. Before actually turning back to port to capture the screen, I had also entered the shipyard.

Then I had started all over from the last save <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" /> During todays play I haven't been able to replicate the issue so I still don't know what really happened.
<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

A dialogue that caused a frozen game, then. Thats very uncommon indeed.

Anyway, I have a question why the changing of flag have to include a change to worldmap and a quickjump to another spot, before the flags on your ship(s) will actually change. Also, in another thread a newcomer has troubles changing his flags in order to socialize with pirates.
I know its not a bug, more a request - but is it possible to change or fix this somehow? Perhaps making the ships change flags over a period of time?

I know for sure that the hoist (pirate) banner quick command helps in changing status towards pirates to friendly - if you have forgotten to do this in the "Relations" menu.
I had of course forgotten to change colors a couple of times in the past when entering spots like Tortuga and ended up being fired upon.
Doesn't void the damage already taken, but the quick menu's key would always stop the shooting and enable anchorage.
This would certainly help the new mate you're telling about.

Regarding the dialogue part, as well as my example quoting 14a6 + updates, I know Morgan had a far better description in a thread a while ago explaining how spacebar could initiate a return-to-ship sequence based on the floating data. Sorry I don't remember which thred! Hope Morgan sees this.
The event in short however is that you are walking on the peer, space bar would assign the return to ship sequence (you just don't know this!) you think you can use the spacebar to adress a NPchar and then something weird happens

The problem is that the space bar initiates both dialog AND enter sequences. You surely experienced being right outside the tavern door (tavern icon still hanging in there on top of the screen - but you forget about it) wanting to talk to the guy on the street, only to bounce back into the tavern when you hit the space bar for quick access.
(This does not happen however if you play very disciplined generating the quick menu with the "enter" key, because then you will have all options displayed to chose between... so by a very long shot disabling the spacebar for all but fencing on land might just do the trick and ged around any bug)

The real difficulty comes with the increased ability to customize the game options eg. patrools adressing you - meaning the players intention when hitting the spacebar might interfere and conflict to the random game behaviour at that point (NPchar or shipgroup actions).

Already at this point, simply by mentioning the word random, I am aware this would be a tough break for the coders - a missing dialog file would have been a simple fix... but this time I just wanted to enter town, explicitelly wanting to avoid dialogs. Besides the shipfloat or shipmovement issue is out of the question because I had already performed other actions in Douwesen port like talking to the traders to sell items previous to the crash.
This is why I have posted every line in all the logs, hoping this could provide some awareness upon what happend.

I think I might've encountered that dialog error as well. Doesn't happen very often and doesn't lock up the game or anything either. Not sure why it's caused. Did it cause you any major trouble or did it just appear weird?

To PeterWillemoes: You might want to PM Pirate_KK for the hoist flag change request. He originally made that mod.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> It breacks the game by disabling the function keys, forcing you to shut down yourself. Anything between the last save and the occurence of the invalid dialog screen is lost. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" /> Besides weird I'd call it damn annoying!

However it doesn't seem to affect the game at all when a re-start from the last save is performed!
After about 10 game hours subsequent to the re-boot, I can also confirm your statement:
It does not happen often ... as I myself could not re-create the event.
It did not mess up the progress of the game when re-started... as actually in 10 hours of playing without any significant occurence of anything remotely reminding of inconvenience. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

I recall I could get out of that situation by doing something with the F1 and F2 buttons and "resume game" or something like that. You could try that next time it occurs.

now's the time i truly wish i would remember the things i write down. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> i think it was something like me going on land in greenford, trying to talk, and then suddenly being transported to QC. the ship was gone, being still at greenford. is this the bug? cos i really don't remember. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />
