special abilities on ship

Rhuka

Landlubber
Ahoy!

I've taken up POTC again after a long time, and first of all i was astounded what happened here thank you all who contributed to make this game really interesting to take up again!!!!!

All these mods done (i run build 12) consolate me greatly by having been gleefully happy to have SD Pirates back my alltime favorite from c64er times and not being able to run it on my PC after not having played it for nigh unto 15 years now..what a shame arrgh!!!

Anyhow back to my initial question.

I seem not able to use the special abilities on board of my ship, like repair or fast turn etc.. can anyone give me a hint whether i've got to change something in the buildsettings.h or what i can do?

Cheers

Rhuka

I've not been very clear i think.

I've got the abilities (repair myself, fast turn one of my officers)
When i choose the special ability there's the cross marking like i dont have the skill at all.

thx

1. From what I remember, you can't use any ability that requires a choice to use it, if you yourself don't have that ability, even if an officer has it.

Rush while fighting, 180 degree turn, pre-load cannon etc. fall into this category.

2. As for the instant repair, if you want to use it, you have to go to Buildsettings.h and find line:
#define REALREPAIR 1 // 1 = on, 0 = off

I think it is on by default so you would have to set it to zero.

Hey Petros,

Thank you for answering, but i dont seem to find the given line:
#define REALREPAIR in my buildsettings.h

And i seem to remember (maybe badly - too much rum!) that i used to be able to direct even a captain to repair his ship?!

stay afloat!

Rhuka

#define REALREPAIR in my buildsettings.h is only there if you use the post Build 12 mods as well. You're using Build 12, so it won't be there.

I don't know why you're having a problem. It should work. I used to work for me. Did it use to work for you in the stock game? Are you trying to use them now in the same way you used them in the stock game? That should work... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Hiho,

Sorry to say that it was my fault, it works fine now...i tried on a ship where i didnt have the planks and sailcloth.... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" /> argh!!

i never played to stock game (does that mean with no mods? sorry tis not me native language), but installed right away build 12.

thank ye anyway for support and happy scourgin'

Rhuka

"Stock game" means the game as you bought it; without any mods, yes. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

while am at it, and you seem so knowledgable a man Pieter <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />...

there some add. questions

1. Should i install postbuild12-mods? is there an advantage?

2. how if i feel like it, can i tweak that i cant always skip random encounters on the main map (or was i just lucky sofar to get away each time?)

3. make it harder for seafights...i've been sofar able to successfully board about any ship even with vastly minor numbers of crew (only pirates sofar), or sink it even when i was against four ships (2 schooners, 1 brig a galleon against my sloop), and i dont think thats why i am a natural pirate either maybe i've been lucky and i've got quite good officers on the other hand...

LOL. I'm not really that knowledgeable. I've only been here for about a year. If you want someone really knowledgeable: Nathan Kell is. Unfortunately, he isn't around right now. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

The Post Build 12 modpack is a compilation of mods that were compiled after Build 12 was put together. There are a lot of vast improvements over Build 12, but there is one drawback: There are a lot of bugs still left unfixed. The post B12 modpack is stable enough to be playable, but is far from bug-free, whereas Build 12 doesn't really have any serious bugs (not many anyway). We're currently working on fixing bugs, but it's going dead slow. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
Depending on whether you want the fullest game-play experience or the most stable one, you should install the post B12 mods or not.
If you choose to go for the post B12 mods, can you please report all bugs you might find? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I reckon, if you set the difficulty to a higher level, that should solve both issues. You can do that in the options menu. Or ask one of your tavern-hired officers and tell him "you don't fit right into this world".
Sometimes, a random events can't be skipped. So I suppose you've just been lucky to escape until now. Mostly, enemy war fleets (French war fleet, for example) can't be escaped.

I hope this will help you. If you have any questions left: Feel free to ask away. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Hello Pieter,

Thank you for your suggestions!

I think i'll go for full game experience <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Of course i'll be of any help that my meager knowledge can supply.
Do i have to activate something like "logs" to be able to be of most help as to give information on bugs i've experienced, and how can i do that?

Cheers

Rhuka

I don't think there's any need to turn on error logging. It will just make your game run jerky (it slows the game down every time an error is logged). You can do it using the PotC ModHelper in the tools subfolder in PotC, though.
Just report any strange things you might encounter in any of the Post build 12 bugs threads. Then someone will go and try to fix it. At some point in the future. The question is whether that will be soon... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
