Start up trouble

Sorry if someone else has posted about this, have searched, but couldn't find the answer (perhaps wrong keywords, but don't know), anyways.

I just did a fresh install of the vanilla game, then installed build 13, and followed the rest of the instructions to install the latest build 14 alpha, but when I tried starting up, the aztec coin starts to twirl, like, one time, then the game crashes to desktop. Tried to take the steps again, nothing. Anyone have any ideas what I did wrong?

While I'm at it, is there a way to change the nickname on the forums?

Make sure you follow the instructions exactly, or it will result in CTD just like you are experiencing. Usually you have not deleted all of the correct directories before installing the mod.

To get your display name changed, you'll have to ask a forum mod/admin.

Indeed. The first question to have answered is "Did the stock game work"?

Yes, stock game worked before, have had it work with build 13 full aswell. This situation I didn't test before everything was installed. Also haven't been able to test it, was away :p

You are doing a real miserable job to start up trouble. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Of course. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Did you follow the post the link in my sig points to? It'll only get you up to Build 14 Alpha 7, though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Edit: Why did I even ask that? I didn't post in this thread before, so how could you have seen my sig? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Actually yes, I did follow the steps in that post, no clue how I found out about it earlier tho <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> Will give it another shot later, to much stuff happening around here at the moment. :p

*edit* after rereading the post, no, I did not, read a different set of instructions. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Ok, tried to reinstall, decided to test it with just stock, the loading thing (the orb spinning) stays in the screen a little longer then before, but then it still crashes to desktop, so, I'm out of ideas :p

That's fishy. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> You don't happen to have Windows Vista by any chance, do you? I've seen it mentioned that you need to disable User Account Control to get PoTC working on it.

Only other thing I can come up with is this:

1. Uninstall the game again.

2. Install and run CCleaner: <a href="http://www.ccleaner.com/" target="_blank">http://www.ccleaner.com/</a> . Don't change any of the checked/unchecked boxes.

3. Reinstall the game and see if it works.

Let it fix that and install the game again. If it still won't work, well, I'm lost - I've never heard of the stock game not working, unless the computer happens to have an ATI graphics card. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

<i>ATI graphics card</i>?! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p2" border="0" alt="pirate3.gif" /> Watch it! I have it and I had no problems with running PotC! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Well, there's lots of people that do. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" /> Heck, the card I've got now won't run Metal Gear Solid, yet the old one would - go figure. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Depends on what kind of graphics card version it is, in most cases. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> If the graphics card is old then it is a craphic(up)s card. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Well, retried, cleared all traces of potc, then tried installing on different format disc (FAT32 instead of NTFS), still nothing.
