Storms

I have the X-Box version of PotC, but everytime i go into a storm i seem to just be spinning around, how the hell do u steer in a storm, i tried everything, i just get thrashed around in a circle.

I mean storms usually made most crewmen sick , i can't imagine how they feel now the ship is spinning on top of it. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />

Go to battle sails for steerage, or just take everything in and ride it out.
{Really there should be an option for just one sail for steerage...}

The steering is reverded slightly. Steering to the right will make you go into a left spin. Steering to the right again (And keeping it down for AGES) does get you out eventually. If not, strike all sail and steer to the right untill you stop spinning, then make all sails and try again. The reverse is also true, but as NathanKell said, battle sails Is probably most useful for manuvering away and taking less sail damage. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

When I played on Xbox, I did what Nathan said: "When you enter the storm strike all sails and hold the ship steady then just when the music is about to end (you can tell when the storm is ending by the music) go to battle sails for steerage. I found it worked for me.

Yeah, the music helps to see how much damage youll take.

You just have to sit there and take it.
<div align="right"></div><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Well, you'd take the damage anyway. try getting into the dipped bit in between waves, and angling yourself accordingly. if you do that, I think you take less hull damage. keeping your sails down stops them from getting damaged too badly. I dont think you can sail out of a storm untill its over (when the music reaches a cretain point). <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Yeah, you're locked in for a random number of seconds.
Generally you want the wind over the bow or stern to minimize hull damage.

i know i have to stay in the storm, but one of the "hints" says to minimize dmg sail with or against the wind, but I have almsot no control over my ship, in a storm and was wondering if i had to like do anything special.

Furl your sails and ride it out, matey! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

I dunno someone time it and let us know <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Sometimes it's longer... I think... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

It may depend on your level, your luck and if you have storm helmsman and sea wolf or not.

Can't say I ever sailed into a storm that took longer than the default length. Only when there were enemy ships nearby, because then you cannot reload to the map either.

The ships are mighty annoying if you've taken bed damage during a storm. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Even more annoying when encountering enemy ships <i>in</i> a storm. Fighting a ship battle in a storm is even more ruddy annoying than fighting one in the fog or during night!!! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

thats what I was meaning. You take haevy damage in the storm, cant see where your firing, get a few broadsides and crash into the rocks of the island that your near, but cant see because of the damn fog! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />
