Stumped Again

I have to enter a Spanish town in order to continue a quest line. The problem is, I can't do so. My reputation with Spain is neutral (I paid the dude in the pirate tavern), so that's not the problem. I've got every country flag, including Spain, so I figured that would be enough. Nope. The fort shoots at me and I get a message that I've "been identified as an enemy," etc. So, I went ahead and paid over 100,000 piasters for a trade license. Even that doesn't work; the fort still shoots at me. And I can't land on the beach nearby because the fort is close enough to shoot at this location as well (Cartegena). Apparently, I can't complete this quest no matter what I do.

I think this may have something to do with the fact that Spanish bounty hunters continue to chase me, even though there is no bounty on my head anymore, and I keep paying off the guy in the pirate tavern. I'm beginning to think this is a bug, though I suppose there could be yet another unexplained feature to this game that I'm missing. How do I get the bounty hunters to leave me alone? None of the above appears to work.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm stumped.

I should add that there is a Spanish bounty hunter quest in my log book, but I have no idea how to complete it. All it says is that "on such-and-such a date I was attacked," yadda yadda

hmmm, if you have a really high bounty on your head something like 70,000 plus you will not be able to get near a port of theirs no matter what flag you fly, or trade licenses you carry.

but if you payed off your bounty, and got a trade license you should be able to do it tho randomly you might get found out at sea. but two things i would check is one that that diplomat has done his work and actually lowered your bounty, and that your trade license is not expired 100k i think is the 30d one and that can get used up in no time flat(make sure you got it in your inventory).

beyond that i would just save before i approach any town i might get aggro from, and try a bunch of times sometimes the town the beaches etc usually long as i got a valid trade license i will eventually be able to land at one or the other with enough reloads.

Thanks for the advice. This must be a bug, because my license is current (I saved before I set sail). And the bounty on my head was 14,000, not the 70k+ you're suggesting. And I'm not getting "found at sea"; there are Spanish bounty hunters that are still chasing me. They are identified as bounty hunters in the engagement dialog that comes up right before battle. I've also tried entering the city multiple times. None of this works.

Either there is another feature about which no one is aware, or it's bugged. I'm guessing the latter.

And why does my quest log keep track of all the engagements with the bounty hunters? It doesn't keep track of fights unless their related to a quest, right?

Looks like I may have to restart this game for a third time. Sheesh. Talk about badly polished software.

The fort shoots at you because your stealth skill sucks. Just don't take this kind of quests until you have it at a decent level. Gather stealth skill boosting trinkets, in my previous game I had +60 in addition to my natural 15 or so and landing at enemy ports was fairly easy, with a bit of savescumming.

I see. So I shouldn't take any quest until I know whether or not I can complete it. Fair enough. I do this, how? There is no information on the details required to complete a quest, and the designers tell us nothing. So, what? I guess i should wait until there's a complete walkthrough, maybe? Or I could perhaps use my amazing psychic powers? You tell me.

Well that's up to you, after three restarts I've decided to wait for a walkthrough.

If you have a non-expired trade license, and flying a friendly flag you shouldn't have bounty hunters on you so if it were me I would assume its a bug. I would try to again go to hostile with Spain and paying the bounty off once again hoping that triggers it all to end. Possibly try flying a Dutch flag instead of Spanish?

You buy only trading license.
Diplomat, dialogue "will reconcile with Spain " (or similar).

I didn't want to open new topic...

I'm stuck again... This time I have to find John Avory. I was told he's in the taverns. My first stop is suposed to be Charlestown. So I go there, ask the innkeeper what's new but he mentions nothing bout Ivory. The business discuss option doesn't work too... The brothel - no result, Church - nothing, Moneylender - nothing, Shipyard - nothing, Governor - nothing.... I just don't know what to do next....

anyone had such a problem yet? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

If this is the beginning quest watch carefully the dialogue with the moneylenders.

it's after I spoke to the moneylender on Curacao.. After that I played other quests and now decided to go back to this one... No interestign dialogues with the moneylender on Nevis... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

EDIT: all the houses in town are locked. Before finding morgan on Port ROyal the houses were locked too. Are they gonna be open when I find Ivory?

After Gudli, three moneylenders, next owner of taverns, which tells about killed schuller. Towns - a random.

I think closed doors do not matter.

Hah! I started a new game. And guess what happened? Spain shoots at me, still, even though they're neutral and I'm flying the Spanish flag. Again, I get the message "Spain has identified you as an enemy" when I approach the coast.

Do the programmers even understand this game? Anyone? Seriously. WTF?

UPDATE: Spain shoots at me no matter which flag I fly. This game is hopelessly hosed. Sorry i wasted the money.

They shoot you because when they spot you, your flag automatically changes to the ROGER... regardless of being neutral or even a friend... you´re identified as a pirate, so you´re the target... If I´m friendly with England and France, they will atack me if I fly the Spanish flag or the roger....
Maybe your Sneak skill is too low, or you have penalties for sailing a higher class ship than your sailing skill let you, or you have penalties because your health status has been decreased.... Try to level-up your character a little more before trying to sneak in enemy towns, and a couple of items that raise your Sneak skill are also welcome.
When visiting enemy cities, if you can´t approach by sea, then you should try to avoid being spotted... try to anchor in some close harbor, bay or beach and approach through the jungle.

Hi,
as i'm also stuck i'm using this thread instead of opening another one...

My problem:
Everytime i enter the store or the moneylenders residence i'm being transferred, or rather teleported into an temple where, after some seconds, micantlecuti, or sth. like that, appears informing me (actually he uses the name august brahms) that i would owe him 5 000 000 piasters. After telling him that i don't have the money he disappears leaving me alone.

As the exit is closed, is there a way to escape from there? And which quest is it (as i know the tenochtitlan quest starts at the mosquito coast)?

Well, there's no way talking to the storekeeper or the moneylender before the teleport happens, and as i really(!) don't have the 5 000 000 there isn't any alternative in the dialog...
I'm looking forward to some help :/

In this topic you have some good advice. If you use them you will not have problems. In fact, the system of national relations balanced, it must be understood. This will require some effort.
