Pointers, There are so many. I don't want to hijack this thread. one pointer that will help is, You don't need Maya to model, you can use what ever program you like as long as it can save in OBJ format, all you really need maya for is to convert to the gm format and to add the placement locators for sails, guns, etc. I personally think Maya is a pain in the ass to model in. I use Lightwave to do all my base modeling and a UV mapper for the textures. no stupid camera setups to worry about.

I agree!
can you make a tutorial for locator placements?
I model with 3ds max and when i triy to export Maya crash or create a empty error.txt and that sucks!

Actually my preference is Lightwave as well. I've been using it since the days when Amiga ruled and just slipped over to the PC version when my amiga got too long in the tooth to keep up.

So LW exports a fully understandable .obj that Maya doesn't mess up? I've seen some OBJ's come into maya and turn into an inside out mess, with polys seemingly flipped about at random.

I did one a while ago. it should be in the archives from the old site. I helped get the Bermuda sloop in game. the thread for that is step by step. It gives proper naming for locators. And its simple enough. that thread never made it over during the migration to the new boards.

Lightwave should export well . if not depending on what version you are using. I also have used '3D Explorer' to export. lwo to obj.

Just a short note to say that ZarethPL finally fixed the reversed lighting bug on the Build 14 Surprise and will be included in the next Alpha.
