Swamps: A bug that looks cool

I was talking about the location of Vanderdecken, not the location of Jack's compass. You only need Jack's compass if Vanderdecken is on Isla de Muerte.

maybe he's on khael roa. would make sense, but i still can't land at the island at any other time than the main quest, though petros can somehow.

Vanderdecken changing place in the different periods sounds like a good idea to me!

About the Buccaner camp, I had suggested this because I liked the idea of a dynamic buccaner camp in one time period and the same area being completly abandonned in the next ones. What about that :
- first time period / Spanish Main : important Buccaner camp, dynamic
- second one : abandoned, deserted, because it lost its function with time.
- third one : flooded, and mostly in ruins. Vanderdecken would be here in this era
- then : it completly disapear.

By the way, an interesting old thread about economy was stated recently in elsewhere, and it's interesting to notice buccaner-type economy isn't considered in it. Main activities were supplying privateers and pirate ship with food supply, dry meat proccured by hunting. Obviously Buccaner camps could sell 'Leather' merchandise, but not 'wheat', that'd be silly... Maybe a new good, 'Dried Meat' could be added, and could be used with the 'wheat' supply onboard your ship for feeding your crew.

That sounds like a cool idea, but it might be a lot of work with quite little return: Most people would hardly notice the change, especially because most people will probably only play in their preferred period anyway. Would be better if we could make all towns slightly different in the various periods. But that does complicate things a lot.

Would be nice to make the Buccaneer Camp fully functional. But then what kind of features should the Buccaneer Camp offer? What should be there?

well, the most obvious purpose would be just another pirate town, but i'd prefer something new. a smuggler base would be interesting. it would work like regular smugglers, the land patrols included. (dunno about the coastguard though)

I disagree, buccaner camps, pirate towns and smuggler places should be different places. Anyway for smuggling we'll maybe have the ABC islands soon, so...

Mainly, buccanner camp should be a kind of base for privateers and corsairs coming from Europe, to resupply their cargo with food. It can become the starting point for a future true colonisation. A pirate town would be a place in which pirates spend their money : big taverns everywhere, pirates houses, ladies, etc.

Not sure about people just playing in one time period... Some might want to try them all, especially to find all the differences. This could be interesting and give the illusion of a dynamic system in which town evolve/disapear. I don't know. Whether it is fesable is something to consider.

I remember someone asking about crocodiles in the swamps, with the lezard animation. Nobody willing to do that? In case you want to explore Florida, looking for the Fountain of Youth...

florida is out of the question for the moment. it's a kinda long way off to the north. though i remember and like the idea.

you know what always dissapoints me a little? this is the caribbean. the beaches just don't look postcard-like enough. you know, really nice green palmtrees, white beaches, blue sea. now the colours are just not vibrant enough.

Err... personnaly I'm not really interested by postcard-like beaches... (Althought I do remember a volcanic-dark-sand beach in Martinique that looked great)
On the contrary what I'd like to see are mangrove swamp and 'jungles' that look more like tropical forest, with less palm treas. As well with roaches and mosquitos. But of course that would be less romantic...

That's exactly what we also think. Of course the Bucanneer Camp could just be another town, but that doesn't make for interesting gameplay. That's why I would prefer something new. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

But then the crocodiles would need to swim instead of walk on land. We've got a tutorial on resizing animals now, so somebody could give it a try. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Some reskins with starker contrast would be nice. That'd also add some variatey to the beaches on the new islands.

The jungles really are not dense. At all. Screwface tried to make them denser by adding some BuildingSet palm trees, but obviously that's far from being perfect. Would be cool if somebody could try and add a some additional palm trees to some of the jungle models to make them feel more jungley. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

well, SOME jungles are a nightmare. do you have any idea how annoying it is trying to find some highly dangerous monkey in a jungle where you can't see anything? nonetheless, it's a funny situation, and making it worse could have good results. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

Just to make sure...
There aren't that much of palm trees in the Carribean islands jungles, or let's just say there aren't only palm trees. On the contrary, you do have a lot of bracken, included arborescent forms, and tall trees. And native american palmtrees are certainly not coconut trees or banana trees, which were both imported by Europeans.

And all islands haven't got jungles. I remember very well visiting one of the ABC islands and it was completly desertical. Rocks, little trees tortured by wind, cactus, nothing more.

Some desert-like locations would also be interesting. How feasable is it to remove the palm trees for the jungle locations?
