Sword fighting in Pirates Gold

Hi, I'm new here and I've a little question about fighting in Pirates Gold.

How can you tell that the enemy will atack high, medium or low? In the original Pirates! you could see where the enemy would hit and there was some time to react. And in gold every attack is a surprise for me :cheers

welcome mate...usually Catalina is the welcoming committee, but ARRGHH!! i got here first!!! nice to have ya aboard, in our tavern, RUM IS FREE!!! (so is grog harhar!)

ive never played this game mate...maybe you could gimme a link or somethin to see how the game is? thanx mate.

Welcome Killer, really mate you have to take a quess, usually you can see at the end where he will attack, just look closely other than that there isnt any other way sorry

Thanks for the welcome mates!
Unfortunately I have only two pirate games: Corsairs and Pirates! (the original and Gold edition) so I’m not gonna be to active one the forum, well until I buy the new Pirates! xD:

CaptJackSparrow <-- You never played Pirates Gold? I thought that it's a `must-have` here.
I have it from http://www.oldgames.nu/

Pretty sure in the Sega version you only need to hit C. No need to specify up or down..but I might be wrong. Ahh, soo long since I ransacked the Spanish Main.."I surrender! ARR! I Knew you would!"...good times..

I usually take Swordfighting as the special strength, that makes the fights a little better, makes your wins a little faster, and your guesses a little better when fencing.

'Allo mates, I recently obtained Pirates Gold for Windows from an abandonware site, and I'm presently trying to get a grasp of the game.
I'm having problems with fencing, because there seems to be a huge delay whenever I try to do anything. Like when I hit attack, for about 10 seconds nothing happens, and then my character starts to lunge madly at the enemy, and when I command him to parry, he continues slashing at the enemy until after a while he starts parrying randomly or even retreating.
There's a total lack of control, sometimes the character attacks when I order retreat, retreats when I order attack, and so on. Is the fencing model somehow impaired in this version, is this a bug or is it just me?

what sort of controller you using? If its by keyboard its a real hassle

Mouse + keyboard, but neither seem to work properly. It's even worse with the mouse, with the numpad I can get at least some response but with the mouse everything's totally random. Maybe it's a bug?

That's odd. I always press 1. Screw parrying!
