Thank You and a question

Hey guys, first I want to say that POTC with the Build mod is one of the best games I have ever played. I have played Sid Mier's Pirates, East India Company, Port Royale 2 and an few other minor pirate games, and none comes close to the atmosphere, storylines and just plain fun quality of the build mod. In some ways I even prefer the build mod to COAS with CMV full, even though I am also anxious to see just how far the modding of COAS will go. Now as to the question part of this post... when playing COAS I almost always play with the pedro de la plesa character. I change the name and back story in the HeroDescribe file and then freeplay. What I want to know is this. The files for that chacter are in the POTC build mod so is there a way to make that model available for purchase and use in the tailor shops or as a replacement look for say Nathanial Hawk? At first I thought that it would have to ported from COAS to POTC, which I read somewhere on this forum was a pain, but now that I know the files seem to already be in the POTC Build files how does one go about making them usable?

I think this is the model ( see image )

In PotC the model is called Chard2 - I think it is one of the models imported from AoP that do not work in PotC ( I am not absolutely sure of this ).

:drunk

You can try to set that as your starting model in PROGRAM\Storyline\[Storyline].c and see what happens.
I think that model is a bit bugged, but you'll find soon enough if it doesn't work. :facepalm

Thanks for the replies and help guys, I'll try and see if I can get it to work. Hopefully it will, since I usually play the New Horizons storyline and to me that model just seems to look more pirate like that the default Mr. Hawk. Up to now I usually play with the Clint Eastwood model I purchase from the tailor in Nevis.

Update... We are making progress! I went to Program\storyline\standard c file and changed the start model to man1 and got a totally different looking portrait on starting the New Horizons quest. Once I started a new game the model seemed to be working correctly ( i tried running, walking, and swinging a cutlass then shooting a pistol) and matched the new portrait in looks. Now it would seem I just need to narrow down which model is the one used for the pedro de la plesa character in COAS and making sure it is in POTC Build files then putting it in the standard c file and see if it works as well. Incidentally I also figured out how to change the starting ship using that same file, which was another aspect I was interested in modifying. Once again guys thanks for the help

As per Talisman's post, try "Chard2" as your starting character model.

Yeah I tried that one that he recommended, and also because it is the one used in COAS. The result was rather strange. Upon setting up a New Horizons game I still had the old Nathanial Hawk portrait. I could change the starting name of my character and ship, like usual, and then adjust the difficulty level and rather I was a corsair, merchant etc. However, upon hittting the start game button, nothing happened. It was like the start game button had been disabled. I tried hitting the F11 key just to see if mabe that would help (didn't really think it would but who knows) but the result was the same. After this I started to experiment with various models after that and it seems that most of the models with chard in the name like chard, chard1, chard2 do not work and get the same result of not being able to start a new game. I tried quite a few other models to and some worked and some didn't (at one point Nathanial was towngirl1! :) Seems to me that you are right and these models are a bit bugged. One thing I did that semi worked was remove the blaze model by placing it on my desktop, made a copy of chard2 and then renamed it blaze. This made the character appear in game and look like the pedro de la plesa model, but the animations such as walking and running are totally strange and unplayable. On the upside though after restoring the files and models to their original layout I did discover several other blaze models I didn't know were in the game, and found one I like much better for Nathanial.

Open PROGRAM\InternalSettings.h and set USECIIIMODELS to 1, then try again. Should work better now.

Ok I will try that. Thanks!

Update: Changing that allowed me to use the chard2 Character model, even though some of the movements are a little jerky its playable so far. Think I will also try some of the other Chard models and see if they work now as well. Thanks Pieter!

The reason why we've got that turned off by default is because some character models, when they're loaded they work fine, but open the next location reload, you get a black screen and everything is corrupted.
If you run into that, let us know.

Ok I will let you know, so far I have been playing with the chard2 model an have been going to various ports looking for escort work to earn money, and I haven't had any black screen yet. Also have been doing things like gambling in the tavern to see if the model works while sitting down, and jumping off the dock into the water to see if the jump and swim actions work correctly. Also purposely started a fight in Port Royale to see if the fighting worked smoothly. Only thing I noticed was some of the animations were different, like when blocking an opponents attack he holds his cutlass out in front of him with both hands on the handle. The side stepping is a little bugged, you just get a tiny little movement to the left or right and have to hit the side step keys repeatedly to get any distance. Other than that the chard model seems to be working fairly well.

He uses the animations from CoAS, so they'd be different from the PotC ones. As for the sidestepping, since he's got a real sidestep animation, it works as such (without collision detection of course).

Yeah I figured it had something to do with that. Far as the side stepping goes it kinda messed up my fighting for a while, since I was used to the POTC sidways glide:) When I first started playing COAS I had the same problem. Still haven't had any black screens yet though.
