The adventures of the D.P.S Druid

Wow,

This game, is very fun. Now since I never played it without Build 11 in place, I dont know how much is Build 11 or the base game, but I assume its all the build.

My young pilot. Sean O'Foley, won a beautiful little xebec in a dice game with a drunk pirate captain who brought it in as a prize. Having fixed it up, he has purchased a british letter of Marque and is running havoc in the carribean.

What fun. I was able to capture one of the Celtic coloured Xebecs that were included in the new build, and named it the Druid. Thanks to whoever did this, its an absolute BEAUTY.

Ive gotten all my issues, with how to turn the ship, handle the sails, etc. I have a few questions.

1) When your in first person ship mode, are you automaticaly thought to be using your spyglass? Or is there a different zoom mode for your spyglass.

2) It would be great if you could climb the mast with your spyglass. (future mod?)

3) I wish there were some sort of "Beat to quarters" command. Guns would be considered unloaded, until you hit the Beat to Quarters, then they would act normally. You could hit it again to stand down. A nice drum .wav would be great for this also.

4) Other than range & reload time, do the different guns have different damage potential?

Now Ive stayed up late for the last two nights playing this! Ill dunk the kids in some soapy water and throw them in the bed early tonight.

The mods have added a CONSIDERABLE amount of content and `play-ability` to the game.

Have you been out on her deck in first person, yet? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> I really enjoyed working her up, and when I found that Celtic mermaid, I just HAD to put her somewhere!

Better spyglasses will give you more info.

<!--`QuoteBegin-irishman`+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(irishman)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->2) It would be great if you could climb the mast with your spyglass. (future mod?)
That would be cool. About the only thing close to doing that is if you are on the Man o'War and you run across the supports for the whaleboat - it's the best place to stand when directing a battle!

<!--`QuoteBegin-irishman`+--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(irishman)</div><div class='quotemain'><!--QuoteEBegin-->4) Other than range & reload time, do the different guns have different damage potential?
Yes. Naturally, the bigger the projectile, the bigger the hole! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Glad you're having a good time with the modded game. It's kept ME up many a night, between playing and modding... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

This game rocks,

For example, now that I am a ranked officer in the Royal Navy, I thought it was fitting to get myself a captains jacket, and then recruit a first lieutenant, a second lieutenant / purser, and perhaps a few midshipment to oversee the gun crews.

Here I am with my new crecruits, about to pay respects on the Govenor, and hopefully be invited to dinner, or at least meet his daughters.

Now what "pirate" game could you do THAT in? Not damn many Im sure. The next step is that Im going to work on `re-skinning` the Frigate that I just bought to be a true brisish ship of the line, with some nice Nelson Chequer work on the gunports.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->NELSON CHEQUER

At the Battle of the Nile (1798) most ships had single yellow, at Copenhagen (1801) apart from a few ships with their own schemes the rest were equally divided between single yellow and double yellow. By Trafalgar most ships were double yellow mainly with the refinement that became known as Nelson fashion (or chequer), that is to paint the gun ports lids black to contrast against the yellow in an almost chequer effect. This became the standard scheme for the Royal Navy. The yellow was supplanted by white around 1815 .<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

The rest can be found here:

Im thinking perhaps wite with blue gunports after my favorite Captian. Has anyone done this already?

What I would also REALLY love is a true CAPTIANS hat, that I could wear abeam, not fore and aft like those new scoundrels. Has anyone done a different uniform skin? If so where (in game) can I get it?.

Also, is it possible to restrict the type of crewmember you have? Ie, instead of these rough thugs, could I have the whole crew in one white uniform, like a true ship of the line?

Hummm, NathanKell just posted a way to do that, if I find where it is, I'll be back with a link! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

<edit> I was wrong, it was Taurondin, but I think this is what you're looking for:
