The Future of PotC Modding

why not set it to 1720-1750 I think that is the closest time to the movie and your far away from the napoliconic era. and we can add those beautiful english uniforms.

Talking about time frame for PotC, I agree that it would be moved toward 1700-1750. But did you noticed that while currently action starts in 1690, the movie about French invasion of Oxbay shows at the very begining text: "Oxbay, 1630"? It seems that Build already made some minor move of time or just Akella/Bethesda presented their inconsistency.

The original game was set in 1630, like the movie says. It was changed in the Build to 1690. Beats me why though.

I personally think an 18th century time frame would be much better. I would like the time frame to be pretty modern, but before the Napoleonic period. Then we can add most of the mods, ships and characters into the modpack. Then the "Patriots and Emperors" mod can focus on the Napoleonic time frame.

The game has to be set between 1621 and 1791, because those are the years that the Dutch West India Trading Company (WIC) was active and I want the WIC in the game. I think the game starting around 1700 would be a reasonable time frame, right?

Ah!! yew gentermen be tew wise fer the likes of me tew be sure, an I'll not be arguein wit me betters. But I likes the one idea however, that Jack Davidson broughts tew the table earlier.....we seem tew be having a lil mismatch going wit skellies and undead, an such....so just because somethin dont really fit into a time period, doesn't be meanin that it can't fit into the Build dew it?

As much as I love the Napoleonic Time Period, the game engine POTC doesn't seem tew be very accomadatin fer this ere "Fleet Size and Maneuvers" an anythin else other than this, is okay tew be puttin into the pot! Don't be removin <b>any ships</b>, they all be welcome an continue tew be a personal choice ( if this game was multiplayer, than you would have to bring balance ), keep all the nationalities active and strong where if you move tew late, you favor England and France only ( Spain should be if any should be, the stronger, than we all can continue the real historical line of thinkin and grab some of the New World Wealth from the Spanish Main and their Treasure Ships and Silver train someday). And as far as uniforms...bring em on, I mean WE HAVE SKELLIES, who cares what the soldiers wear, I am tryin tew be findin a way tew use them all!!

probably more than Two Cents worth but................

P.S. The board be laid out differently, did I do this or did someone else? It is all Brown and squished sideways, so it is narrow rather than longer???

To Long John Silver: As far as I'm concerned, we put everything we have into the pack. However, there are some people who want some historical reaslism. So if we set the game in 1700, we can add in almost everything but the Napoleonic things.

There is a new forum skin, but if you don't like it, you can change it at the bottom of all pages where it says "Bright Pirate Fluid (Import)". Change it into "IPB 2.1 Default".

To Colosseum: Your idea is, I think, a very good and possible idea, though not easily acchieved. We do have a weapon's locker now, where you can store your superfluous weapons and the crew will use them during boardings. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

hey guys, i set down for a while and made a new flagall texture. what do you think about it?

<a href="ftp://ftp.piratesahoy.org/Cockolate-bill's%20stuff/flagall.JPG" target="_blank">Pic</a>

if you do like it we could include it to the new build13... maybe =)

Those are some pretty nice flags. At the moment Pirate_KK is working on making ships use different flags, so he might be able to use these flags for his mod. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

At the moment I am not sure what flags we should use in the final Build... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I think it would be pretty cool if somebody could code a musket that would be worn instead of a sword. The musket is slung over your back in gameplay (much like two-handed weapons in Oblivion), and the sword is replaced with a sheathed bayonet. Also, you run faster with the musket slung. When you attach the bayonet, the musket turns into a sword-type weapon which you use to stab and slash. Then, (if balance allows) you can also carry the pistol. I don't think reloading animations would really be necessary, since the pistols reload while just sitting there on your belt.

Ahoy there mateys, I don´t want to be the guy that pours the water into the rum, but I personally don´t like the idea of going too much into the 18th century because those years were the "pirate´s sunset", piracy continued but in a very small scale I mean there was no burning of panama or sack of cartagena in those days, and port royal was well underwater by then, the real golden age of piracy was the 17th century, so in my opinion 1700 would be the the top date for our mod, What do you think?

At the moment, we try to keep the mod itself in the pirate era and we have the Patriots and Emperor's mod for our Napoleonic needs. I personally would like to use both at once, but that's just me. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I'd suggest either a date of c.1715, after the Peace of Utrecht when there were the most pirates in the Caribbean (due to lots of unemployed sailors, minimal navy presence and a huge upsurge in trade), or alternatively set it to during the Spanish War of Succession (Queen Anne's War) as this would allow for warfare between the different nations (except Britain and Holland on one side and Spain and France on the other) and justify the piracy by their being many privateers in the seas. For those of us seeking something like historical accuracy there is no getting away from the fact that the sailor and soldier skins by JMV and Derringer belong to the post 1748 period at the very earliest.

It seems to me that this is no longer relevant. Can I unpin this topic?

I've already suggested this to Pieter, and other people may have too, and I now know I'm not the only one who wants at least a choice to play in the Napoleonic Wars, but An idea for maybe some far future time, maybe neaer to now, is going to Europe. After my "more filmships" mod, I intend to do this myself, but just suggesting it incase another, more experienced modder wants to do it, or help me when I do it. Other ideas are allowing English Captains to not turn against England, as I've heard happens, they're my favourate team to play, but I don't want to fight them. My final idea (I know they're all large scale, except possibly the 2nd one) is to Make new quests for other ntions, maybe related though (maybe some teams do, the only teams I've played as are England, Spain, Pirate and Freelancer (that's what I call it), so maybe France could have to help the invasion, spain might have something based on their relations, and so on and so forth.

Tell me if you think I'm mad. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Making new quests is quite possible. Bartolomeu o Portugues and Short Jack Gold have both been working on it recently and I've also been doing some messing around with it. Making a completely new worldmap for Europe seems a bit unrealistic to me. At least as things stand right now. You would need to make 1) a new worldmap, 2) the entire coastline in 3D and 3) new towns and landscapes. That is a lot of work. And I am not sure if the game engine allows for mainland at all. The current game only has islands and no mainland. Europe of course has mostly mainland and only a couple of islands, which are MUCH larger than the ones in the game currently (England!). I would personally recommend setting your sights a little bit lower, at least until we have gotten further in our talks with Akella and seaward.ru. Perhaps a new engine and better modding tools will make your Europe idea more realistic.
