<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Well I am thoroughly enjoying playing the B12 version of this game and thanks to the modders on here for that <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> Having started the quest I got tempted to try upgrading my ship by sending some pirates down to visit Davy Jones and grabbing their ships and loot. Having taken over a Galeoth I got greedy and set out from Redmond to plunder another pirate ship. Arriving on the scene via the Sail To option I find two pirates and sink a badly damaged barque and grab the loot then go after his mates in the other Galeoth which is now heading for the horizon. We both hit a dead calm and are going nowhere so just sit there taking potshots at each other. Meanwhile, up from behind comes a French patrol including a huge battleship <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock:" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" /> With no wind blowing we are sitting ducks and I have to watch my masts being blown off and cannonballs whizzing overhead for 10 minutes. Thinking this was the end I decide to go out fighting <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/guns.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":2guns" border="0" alt="guns.gif" /> and pump a few pointless shots at the looming battleship off my stern, knowing that any second another broadside will finish me off. But the final broadside never comes and the battleship sheers off. Still with no wind blowing the map view icon suddenly appears and I have a ship symbol I can move on the map - can it be true - can I escape ?? With no masts I somehow sail back to Redmond and go to the sea view and moor in the port and see that I miraculously have sails again <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> If this is a bug it is one I can quite happily live with as it got me back to port with a fat hold of loot when I thought I was done for <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Sail % was a big fat zero after they got blown away <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> Forgot to look what the % was when I got back into port. Went and bought some new ones - £14,000 damage repair <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />

So probably the % was 0, but the `masts-down` attributes were cleared by repairing.

Although I've seen ships with masts down when in port, so it's not that they're always shown with no downed masts...hmm.

Found the savegame at the end of that mission and here is a pic of the galeoth with the miraculous mast. As I had no masts at sea they would have had to build this mast while under fire from a French battleship ! Maybe they made it from the fragments of my hull that were blown off <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> None of my officers have repair skills as yet in their abilities and the repair rate at shore is 0.XXsomething percent per day. Weird

Oh, so only _1_ mast back? {I thought you meant _all_ masts back...}
Ah, ok. Yeah, that's probably because they've repaired a minimum amount of rigging and thus, however holed the sails on that mast there are _some_ sails repaired and thus need a mast to be hung on.

Or at least that's my guess.

I've had this happen before, where after an especially heated battle has left one of my ships dismasted, I've arrived in port with a jury rig. I believe Akella threw in this feature since you cannot sail from one island to another in real time.

In reality, if enough supplies were available among the ships of a fleet or convoy, A jury rig would be erected to get a disabled ship under way. Otherwise, a disabled ship would have to be towed to port.

That makes sense and it fits in with the gameplay plus historical fact. I still wonder why that French battleship never finished me off though - one more broadside and I would have been fish food.

Maybe they realized you might put up a fight... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Yeah they were afraid a stray peanut from your peashooters would stain their ship.

Now you of course didnt want that to happen, did you? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
