Build mod - Master Gunner
Storm Modder
thought i'd give a heads up that the modDB has a PoTC page
<a href="http://games.moddb.com/252/pirates-of-the-caribbean/" target="_blank">http://games.moddb.com/252/pirates-of-the-caribbean/</a>

Might be good to get the build mod up on the mods page <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Page can't be displayed. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

works for me?

try going to
<a href="http://games.moddb.com" target="_blank">http://games.moddb.com</a>

and manually browse for PoTC with the games tab.

I was the one that added it because I thought it might be useful for getting you guys some exposure. I love the work you guys are doing here. Bethesda butchered this really great game and I'm glad you guys have saved it from its ugly creators. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> (I really dislike Bethesda soft as they tend to lack after release support for their games)

The Moddb community has a lot of coders, texture artists and even modelers that'd be most likely willing to help the community out.. Most people who have bought the game don't even know this mod exists. (I've been watching you guys since Build 12 which was very impressive)

There is also an Add-on DB page so you can make single textures and host them via Moddb. It'd be nice the build mod was featured on ModDB as to give us an extra mirror for downloading (as I've noticed that the mirrors can go down from time to time).

Thanks again and good luck with development.

You said it, bethesda released Star Trek Legacy a few months ago and pretty much just gave out one petty patch that screwed up more than it fixed. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" />

It's a pity that bethesda didn't keep supporting POTC(Sea Dogs) as they could have improved the engine at least - or even learned from you guys how to actually make games that people enjoy for a change <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />.

Of course Bethesda are stupid and just expect people to buy there games instead of actually taking in feedback.

This is nice to share the Build Mod, which is really great, with a broader audience. However, I have a proposal: Isn't it possible to create one big mod file for Build 13 U3 or Build 14 when it is stable? The current procedure of installation (POTC base, 12.1, then runme.bat, 13 full including runme.bat, 13 U3, fightparams fix ...) is somewhat complex for a pure 'consumer'.

Just my two pence.

well, build 13 update 3 isn't that big. i think it might be possible to combine it with build 13. if someone is willing to upload it.

Yes it'd be nice if all the files would work in a stand-alone installer. A lot of new people who haven't used this mod before will find this next to impossible to install due to all the crashes you get if you bugger something up. A stand alone installer would result in 100% accurate installation.

Would it be legal to distribute all the files in the POTC folder that have a full install of 14.7? I mean you still need the CD to run it. (though it is quite easy to get the crack for it - err am I allowed to say that?)

The existing method takes a bit of trial and error. getting 12.1 to 13 to 14.6 was bloody hard enough because 13 (full installer) doesn't work and you have to use the 12.1 to 13 upgrade instead. That was a bit tricky to figure out but I did eventually get the hang of it.

I mean a 100% working version of 14.7 packaged in an installer would be an instant fix to this problem.

I think the issue here is just to allow people to just install the latest patch and not worry about any of the previous builds. That'd be a lot more user friendly as there are a lot of files on this site that do a lot of different things so it can get confusing.

What do you mean with this CD problem? In my PotC version (Ubisoft, French version) you don't need them to launch the game, only to install it.
And I don't understand the thing of installing build 12.1... I'm currently running with Build 13 full + Build 13 update3 + build 14 alpha6, all available on Pieter site, and I haven't got any problems ; is old build 12.1 really still needed?

(About the runme.bat, I don't run them ; I rename them runme.txt, open them with Notepad, see what need to be moved, and do it manually. Otherwise it makes a big mess.)

I had to go from 12.1 then use the Upgrade version of 13 (Because the Full installer has a corrupt file- its already been noted before) then from 13 to 14.6. It was a problem to begin with because 13 Full wouldn't work for me, then I noticed that there was another way around it. And I'm guessing my idea would be illegal if you only need the CD to install.

I guess what I was trying to say is that it'd be nice if we had a Build 14 Full Installer. Sorry for not being clearer.

oh come on, did you honestly expect that we wouldn't include a no-CD crack in a modpack from a PIRATE forum? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> Pirate away boys :p

Oh boy, 'ere we go again with 'is bloody Piri' accen'.... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jackhat.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":j2" border="0" alt="jackhat.gif" />

The main problem with a full Build 14 Alpha 7 installer is basically making the file (takes a long time to compile) and, more importantly, uploading the file, which would take ages even on a fast internet connection. It was a tremendous pain in the *** for me to upload the Build 13 Full installer and that one got corrupted somehow and I couldn't reupload it again, because I am aboard the MS Zuiderdam now. However, the file has been reuploaded again by Pirate_KK and Rupertlittlebear and in theory it should work fine when installed on top of stock PotC. However, some people have been having troubles with that. Why, I do not know. Either because the file is corrupted or they have a different game version for which the Build 13 installer doesn't work properly. This second problem is usually fixed by installing Build 12.1 first.

Could somebody try to add our mods to that modDB site? We really do need some publicity. Things seem to be cooling down here big time. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Yeah I figured you guys had a bit of PR trouble hence why I added it to the Database. I'd add a profile for you guys but I mean its not my mod so one of the team members might want to host it. At least now you'll be able to announce releases outside of pirates ahoy and bring in some new demographics.

Yeah I understand that. I guess a full build isn't feasible.

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" /> Pieter,
You got that one right!
I've got all the files including the Build 13 Installer and as far as I can tell it's not corrupted.
It's installed on my computer and works fine. Give me an address I can upload it to and
I'll have a go! My org. POTC is US and I use Build 12.1 when installing.
I haven't played the game for a while now and do not install any of the 'Fixes' since your
departure. Looks like you're the driving force behind the Modding of POTC.
I come here every day for a check. There are a few new people trying the game but not many. Cheers Pieter and don't enjoy yourself to much on the Zuiderdam!

Okay I'm going to add the profile and host it for you guys. Let me know if you'd like to add anything - I've put into the profile that I have meerly adopted the profile duties so I am not actually apart of the mod. Hope this is alright, I can quite easily transfer ownership if need be.

<a href="http://mods.moddb.com/9269/potc-build-mod/?view=276304#276304" target="_blank">http://mods.moddb.com/9269/potc-build-mod/...w=276304#276304</a>

The email address I added is my own so if there is a problem with the page you can let me know that way.

I've uploaded most of the files that I could to ModDB so they'll pop up soon. Let me know if I write something that isn't right on the profile.

Also It'd be nice if I could get some screenshots. I'd like to announce the Build Mod on the front page if I can. (screenies draw more attention so get me a lot <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />)

Thanks. I'll also work on some banners for the ModDB profile.
