I shall be greatly looking forward to your supermod. You are featured in the headlines of <a href="http://www.hookedonageofpirates.com/" target="_blank">http://www.hookedonageofpirates.com/</a>

I installed the patch. Apparantly it does not work with the old Starforce crack. Replacing it's programm and RESOURCE folders will get the intro's to play, but then crashes and the prompt reveals that engine.exe requested the program to shut down. Starforce keeps requesting to install libraries, but I would rather wait another week then have starforce violate my beloved laptop, even if it is purchased legally.

There might be a new No-CD crack or a work-around on starforce on www.gamecopyworld.com in the matter of days. I woud keep my eyes on that site..

I hope the "DeViant team" makes short work of that Starforce taint.

As for the FTP upload on the Patch. I am currently uploading it as we speak. 18 minutes left on the FTP upload from the time i posted this Edit.

Gah... I hate having a game legally, then being forced to belay installing the most recent legal patch simply because starfarce is part of its workings.

As noted in another thread, from what some folks over on playlogic's forums are saying, there are more and new starfarce checks in files that had none before the patch.

Anyhow, I'll be keeping an eye on what playlogic does and just play my unpatched, de-starfarced copy with the super mod.

I read that publishers have the right to create patches to actually remove the starforce protection from their working titles. Can you believe this? Sometimes it seems as if Starforce paid Playlogic to force akella into using that piece of faeces. =P

I bet Akella was using pirated developement tools, due to the lack of funding. They would have 1 company license, but don't actually redeem it, and just keep it in the shelf to show the cops, who aren't accustomed to software piracy anyway. Such ironies happen quite often in countries where the Game Industry is new.

REINDER -

According to CyberOps, he is assimilating the good parts of the patch 1.43 into SM 1.1 and shoving the Starforce aspects up into where the sun don't shine.

So no. Patch 1.43 is not compatible with SM 1.0, but will be INTEGRATED into SM 1.1. It will effectively be a replacement/improvement.

P.s. I'm in the headlines!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />

THAT'S SO EXCITING <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Can't believe they 'd be have that SF crap in a frigg'n patch <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> after gett'n rid O' SF play'n Silent Hunter 111, purchased a expansion pack for SH3called Sea Wolves, an no SF added in the patch, WHY? cause the developer O' the patch knew nobody would purchase it with SF crap on it.. Apparently PlayILogic has not yet got the message <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

LMAO... so this patch doesn't fix anything important in the game?! What i understand is that the main purpose with this patch is to upgrade the StarForce crap. Playlogic/Akella must be suffering from a major head injury because nobody that play games wants that shit on their computer.

No worries, in a week thar will be a NO CD crack for the added patch, Its kinda funny cause SF said earlier its a difficult protection system ter hack <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Okay, to point one: Yes, publishers are legally allowed to release patches to remove starforce from thier games, most publishers don't. Though a specific example of folks that do are EgoSoft for X-2 & X-3. X-2 just used earlier secureRom CD checks, but X-3 uses SF currently. EgoSoft removed the CD checks from X-2 and has already officially promised to do away with SF and the need for the DVD to be in the drive for X-3's next major update.

Point two: Actually, the agreement most publishers put in place with a dev-house is that to get the game published, the publisher has final say-so on what anti-piracy measures are put into place, etc. Quite frequently the developer has Zero say in what happens.

Point three: Akella has been around for awhile, I've got at least 5 different games from them, all known, but very niche. Either you know who they are or you don't. The average geek probably won't, but die hard Age of Fighting Sail fans do. It could go either way on whether they have quasi-legal tools in thier repertoire, definitely isn't unheard of in the industry though.

My final point: Its still a fun as hell blast of a game, just wish Playlogic would get a clue, go over the needs and desires of the community as a whole and fix up the darned game to meet its potential, instead of giving us a stripped down, revved up version of the PotC engine.
