Hello everyone, my semester is finally over and I have time to play POTC some <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thpirateshipff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":piratesahoy!" border="0" alt="thpirateshipff.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

Anyhow, I have put together a music pack though I don't think it is finished. I can probably still upload it to the ftp or something like that if anyone wants to try it out (and if everyone's ok with me uploading to the ftp <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />). It's a bunch of classical music that I like that I thought fit certain parts of the game well. There are still some bugs (for example sometimes after winning a sea battle, it will play the victory music I have chosen and then start playing some other music at the same time which as you can probably imagine is pretty chaotic. For this reason, I moved that piece to normal sailing until I can sort it out though it may take some coding). It's still not finished; I've selected all the music I want to use, but I still have some other things in mind. I'd like to have it play certain music while raining and other music without rain (I'm not talking about storm, just rain. I'm almost positive that this is possible after looking at the file "sound.c" in the folder "PROGRAM") or even at night as apposed to day. I also may edit the music files themselves to shorten them a bit (the pack will be kind of big).

Also, I was wondering if there is a function or event for adding a ship into the water immediately. If so, could it be done with the press of a button? For example, let's say that I would like to press the key "Insert" on my keyboard during gameplay (sailing) and place an enemy (let's just say Spanish) brig at my starboard broadside about 400 yards away. (I'm not interested in cheating, but I've got an idea for a small mod. This could lay the groundworks for it). Or, if it would be easier, to have a command on the list after pressing "enter" that executes this function or event? (like the 'sail to' command or 'hoist flag' command for example) That would actually be more in line with the mod I was thinking about.

Another thing you might be interested to know is that I was playing POTC not long ago and encountered strange things in the Archipelago. I pressed "g" twice to get to the next game hour to get a weather change. Everything was fine until my view started to spin. Spin? Yes, that's right, my view and my ship started to spin; the ship was actually about to keel over. Worried, I quickly pressed "r" to return to normal time. The ship slowed down its spinning and gradually righted itself, but then I couldn't give the ship any directional input for some reason. I don't know what was going on, but I thought I'd at least report it. The previous two paragraphs are the main points of my post though, not this one.

I'm using Build 14 alpha 6 right now. I'm not really up on what has happened over the semester, but if I'm correct, the music pack should work on any Build 14 or maybe even 13. It's been a while since I looked at Build 13. Basically, I looked at the Master and Commander Music Pack and used its structure as a guide for my own music pack, so whatever the M&C pack works on, mine should also work. (By the way, to save me the trouble of converting some M&C soundtrack tracks to *.ogg, I used a couple of the music files from the M&C pack. I hope that's alright. It really shouldn't matter though since I would have added them myself anyway. I should probably mention it in the readme though).

Ahoy Lord Perfect! Same with me, the semester is over, that's why I'm getting back to doing some modding and playing POTC. Good luck with your music pack!

Goody, all modders are coming back now. It is becoming rather busy here <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Looks like something smoking allready.. is Pieter thinking again? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

sorry, off topic, but what's a semester? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Semester is school term (it meens ~3 months. and there is 3 semesters in one school year...)

<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

It depends on what school you go to. In my school, there are two semesters per year and one is ~4.5 months

Anyhow, anybody want to talk about the music pack or the coding I mentioned? Who knows, I may have to wait for Pieter to have a look.

Sorry, my mistake, I reed that message ~2AM... My head didn't worked, I gues... I wrote about tremesters, not about semesters...

What kind of a music pack is it? What'd you do? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Some of what you propose might be possible.
Somebody'd have to look into it.
I'll see what I can do after I get back home,
which will be in two days... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/razz.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":razz" border="0" alt="razz.gif" />

Take into account that the next track starts playing after a set periof of time.
That is why there is sometimes silence between the music tracks.
However, if the track is too long, I can see the next track starting before the previous ended.

I also get the spinning problem occasionally.
Eventually you do get control of your ship back though.

But what if you have a 20-minute long one?
I don't know what the time interval is. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Ahoy! Sorry for taking a while to reply!

None of the pieces are <i>that</i> long in my music pack <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

The music pack is a compilation of classical music that fits certain parts of the game. I've used a few of the classical pieces from the Master and Commander soundtrack, but I also used some Vivaldi, Rodrigo, Elgar, Grieg, Brahms, Smetana, a renaissance folk piece for the bar, and some medieval chants for the churches. I don't really want to say exactly which pieces I used though because I want people to just try it out and see what they think.

I'm also planning on adding another piece or two or three by Jeremy Soule, but that can be in a later version or something if people just want me to go ahead and upload.

Also, in the Master and Commander Music Pack, it says not to use the music scheme from "buildsettings.h"
What does that mean? I don't see any music scheme in that file.

So... is it OK for me to create my own folder in the FTP to upload the music pack into?

Also, do any coders have any ideas for adding in a ship randomly during sail. I know someone has more or less done it. In the direct sail mod, random ships and other objects will appear. How was this done? What functions were used?

(also, I would be interested in finding out what all was coded and modified for the direct sail mod. I have an idea. Yes another idea. Whether it may or may not bear any fruit... we'll see)

All the directsail stuff is in the CCCdirectsail.c file in the PROGRAM folder. I'm in the middle of that code now doing some heavy-duty tweaks.

Hook

Upload away, I'd say.
What game version do you use? There might be some outdated info in the M&C music pack ReadMe.

Right now I'm using Build 14 alpha 6.

I'll upload it very soon so you guys can try it (only if you want to of course).
edit: the ftp is incredibly slow and the pack is 99 mb, so I uploaded it here (for now at least):
<a href="http://www.4shared.com/file/80084597/7460a957/Perfect_Music_Pack.html" target="_blank">Perfect Music Pack</a> (hope you like the name <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> )

And thanks Hook. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" /> I had a look in the file and found pretty much what I wanted. It looks like I'll have to create some kind of a ship group for the mod I have planned. I'm not exactly sure how yet, but I'll probably figure it out. I think I'll just try to start by assigning it to a keyboard command and take things one step at a time. Eventually I'll have to figure out exactly how the "battle interface" works and change it to that (like a special ability).

Here's a pretty big hint as to what I have in mind: I'll also have to figure out how to make it cost a certain amount of planks and sail cloth. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> That in itself should be pretty easy; I just need to either find a part of code where it was done (like that village building mod)... or some one could just tell me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/user_comment.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="user_comment.gif" />

And that makes me think of another mod that could be made using this application. Perhaps the player would be able to launch gunboats and cutters (costing a certain amount of planks and sailcloth and crew... or even a new "commodity" of cutter or gunboat). Of course this would actually create another ally group so you wouldn't have control of them but it would add some more ships to the fray. Who knows? But this isn't the mod I had in mind. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/doff.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":doff" border="0" alt="doff.gif" />

I'll still have to do some more examining of the code and may have to post again for some help understanding a few things though.
