Too dark

Hello everyone, i have a little problem with the game, and it is that in some areas, mostly at land or when is at night(duh) everything is sooooo dark that the only thing i can see is my sword and the gun, i can't find my ass with both hands, is there a way to make it brighter without touching the monitor?.
If there is an easy solution for this thing, is fine, but if it requires one of you to rack your brains over this, forget about it, i don't want you to waste your time.
Sorry about my grammar and thank you anyway.
Edit: I forgot about the ship flags, most are dark too, it's hard to see what faction they are without using the spyglass.

Seems like it's ALWAYS ten o'clock on this island.....

Adjust your brightness in the Options tab on the game start menu - select video and adjust the brightness slider to suit.
