Too many questions

i like the brigantine's rigging the best. are you trying to put the brigantine's rigging on a packet brig's hull? or vice-versa, but that doesn't really matter.

I'm putting the packet brig's hull on the brigantine's rigging so that the brigantine has a descent hull without a hole cut through the cabin. I really like the brigantine rigging too. It can get close to the wind and still has the firepower and hull strength of a brig (which is considerably better than smaller ships) so it is better for taking larger ships. I just have never been to fond of the brig's hull once I took one in the original POTC and found out how weird it is. It would also be cool to have a man'o'war style brig (remember that man'o'war /= big ship. man'o'war = ship designed for fighting). This have its own gun deck, a flush deck with little or no cannon above decks and a bigger version could be the sloop of war. They should look almost like miniature frigates with two masts and would typically have up to 20 guns (in the they need at least 22 to be able to fall into the same roll). But I know, who's going to do it, right? If I was a lot better at 3d modeling I might try, but...

Another thing that bothers me about the game is that what is called a "corvette" is actually a pretty good sized frigate. The surprise in Master and Commander was a 28 gun frigate. The 44 gun frigate was actually something of a super-frigate of its time and was mainly known so well becuase of the success of American "super-frigates". Most big frigates were what the "corvette" is. The corvette was really the french term for a sloop of war. Anyway, I can just pretend the the "corvette" is a frigate.

i knew that about the corvette. another example is that a pinnace is in fact a sort of war-tartane with a jib, but larger. it occasionally has a cabin too. it was primarily used as a pirate ship. the thing that's currently called a pinnace looks more like a VOC trading vessel, like the Batavia.

yeah. Something that I might try to do to possibly help out the community is to go through the ship files and change the names to realistic and if it's possible add the lines I have noticed on some of the ships that give the best sailing point and the closest sailing point. I was rather pleased when I found these lines in the ships_init file for some of the ships (remember my topic about suggestions?). Maybe we can mod the sailing characteristics to give the player more of an option of finding the ship that he/she likes rather than just the one with the most cannons.

If I do anything like this though, it would be later when I don't have anything else to worry about (possibly later this summer) and I would definately have to have input because I surely do not know everything and would without question miss some of the proper names and some sailing characteristics. But at least it's an idea and a possible goal. This is also secondary to many other things that others are doing, but at least this is something that I might be able to do.

well, you could of course look up the ship-types on google. that's bound to be of some help.

I have a descent grasp on it, but I'm just saying that I'm bound to forget something. I could possibly do the initial work, but some people would have to look through the whole thing and make sure that everything is accurate enough. I have resources and stuff (some books and of course wikipedia. The books are the best as they are written by proffesors with phd and have impressive bibliographies and contradict a number of sources on the web about things like galleons; one internet sight actually claimed that the frigate was "the man'o'war of the erra" being the largest. How ridiculous.). Anyway, maybe after summer classes I'll find some time. Of course I don't know if everyone would want this, but I know that I definately would like this.

Hi again
I still can't seem to join the pirates in Quebradas Costillas. When i try to go to his house, he just says go away. Is there anything specific you have to do in order to join them?
my reputation is cutthroat, and i have a little over 300000 personal wealth

I also noticed The pay crew by salary. When i speak to my officer, he says i'm paying fx 952 gold to my officers and 552 to my crew, but by the end of the month they demand a little over 4500 :S?
How Come?

Also, i looked aa bit at the ships_init
It has some very interesting ships, such as Lucky Jacks HMS Surprise, Manowar 3, Ship of the line (Or is it just a lineship)?
Is there any way to get these ships other than rendom encounters at seas?

I think there's a file somewhere to chose what ships to start with. Someone else will have to tell you though.

I'm not so sure about the crew pay. I just know that when the crew pay gets high, it's time to go rake me in a galleon. That usually more than takes care of the monthly salary for a while.

seems reasonable in comparison to the amounts i get. although it would mean that every crewmember would be filthy stinking ritch after a year.

Exactly heh .. my officer says im paying 15000 to the crew and 9400 til the officers now.. So do they throw the rest of the wealth overboard or what <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

woah.... that IS much. but i doubt it's 500. light manowars have something like 1000 crew. kinda funny really. just one big meat-shield. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

Hey, it's not so bad... After some time one could easily make over 1000000 gold pieces, so why stint your sailors money? They have some rights too, they should be able to spend some time in tavern or such when on land...

pirate_kk

yeah....a few hundred beers. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

Hah i have 966 able seamen to be exact

But manowars.. and ship of the line's (Or are they just lineships?), is there any way to get them other than random encounters?

Im running a Fast Mershant (frigate) at the moment..with 200 crew. I think its pointless to run a full crew! (200/500)
