too ruthless of a pirate?

hey guys haven't posted on here in a while.

I'm recently playing my most blood thirsty pirate yet. he uses the barbossa skin and sails a vml lugger. it's been actually a fun set so far, I started off with the evil stormy start. he's lvl 15 currently and is pretty fun to play. lately I've been playing it like if the guy gets killed legitimately like not cuase of a bug or cause the game being stupid but cause he died a pirate's death, I start over with a new character. yesterday he got exceptionally lucky as he got jumped by a super frigate and corvette and the mast on the "King Randy" got shot off, and then another mast and so I figured he was pretty screwed and was already planning my next character or what I was gonna do if he survived in a dingy but he kept fighting. then luck stroke and the frigate collided with the corvette and tore off two of it's masts. and then as he kept firing the frigate surrendered he boarded and then not long after the corvette surrendered.

course it's highly unlikely that would happen so I rp it as the ships collided and were too badly damaged to engage and he just kinda floated away out of sheer dumb luck.

anyways that's my character >.> now the thing is, I think his reputation is so low that even pirates fear him. cause every time i go into a pirate colony I get attacked by everyone and I have to kill the whole damn village, the pirate merchants and some of the tavern keepers cower when he enters, though thank god the whores still love him.

questin I have is, is there a way to fix that as I don't really want to be hated by my pirate bretheren, only cause it makes it difficult to offload goods and sell loot, and also is there a way to actually join the pirate faction like ya do the legitimate governments? so as to make all pirate ships green and allow him to buy pirate ships at the ship yard (though why he would do that when he can steal em I don't know)

As far as I know, if you leave an island and return, all characters on the island should no longer be hostile. However that might be different on the lowest reputation. You CAN join the pirates: Go to QC and talk to the pirate leader, Isenbrandt Jurcksen. You need to have a high enough fame level for that though. If you join the pirates, you will be able to buy pirate design ships at the pirate shipyards. These ships are slightly better than ordinary ships because they've been modified by pirates. They're faster and can carry heavier cannons, but do have less hit points and carho space.

I've been wondering about joining the pirates aswell. My character has attained the Hero level (I suppose that's the level of fame you're talking about), still I cannot joind the pirates and their relation to me remain Hostile (ie -60) while the relation based on flag is Neutral. Or are you talking about the fame level as in "Unkown Pirate", "Freeboter" and so on?

As in "Unknown Pirate", "Freebooter" and so on. If you're so ruthless a pirate, how did you manage to get up to "Hero" level? You get that level for being a good guy. Otherwise you're supposed to be "Terror of the Seas" or something like that. I thought perhaps a low reputation might have been the cause for all those pirates attacking you, but apparently not if you're a hero. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wacko:" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

Pieter that's ChargedBJH not me =P I'm Terror of the Seas XD but yeh even the pirate leader attacks me! D= I was wondering maybe it could even be a bug. also how do ya get yer fame up cause I've sank ships after ships, made millions collectively with my various voyages (am sailing on account) I noticd they started attacking me right after I did that quest with the french pirate lady >.> ya know where we go steal the gold shipment from oxbay?

Woops. My mistake. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />

Hmm. Sounds odd to me. I don't really know how that got caused. To reset it, try this:
Open PROGRAM\console.c and add:
<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->LAi_group_SetRelation(QC_CITIZENS, LAI_GROUP_PLAYER, LAI_GROUP_NEITRAL);<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->
below this code:
<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->    ref pchar = GetMainCharacter();
    ref ch;
    int i;<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->
Load your savegame, press F12 and see if that reset the relations to neutral so that they don't attack you anymore.

hey thanks bud! currently on a voyage to st martin so as soon as I arrive I'll save and close her up and try that out and will get back to ya here if it does. oh and how was your RL voyage to the caribbean btw, I heard yer back?

EDIT:

heya, tried it, fraid it didn't work man =| that was too simple of a solution >.> guess i'll just have to deal with it with this character (I always get the bizzare bugs) and about the fame how do ya get that, for future reference. I really hope that the only way <b>ISN'T</b> to be sailing around in a man of war sacking colonies >.>

edit: sorry fixed a mistake that said I hope it IS the only way instead of ISN'T >.>

To increase your fame, you need more personal wealth. You can get that by signing articles with the crew or by entering into the service of a nation and sinking ships for that nation and being promoted.

yeh been sailing on account =) (sailing with articles) and thanks =)

EDIT: just a note. I increased my rep to bloody terror and it didn't stop all pirates from attacking me. note it's all pirates at any pirate colony. I created a new character and he was fine though so dont know what to say really.

I have experienced the same problem... and I learned that, as the Captn' says: "I might have deserved that"... while configuring the options.
So I have restarted the game and really try to behave especially in Tortuga. And wherever I go in the game I go alone, since I have also experienced my officers starting fighting eachother either after the random rogues are killed in a town or after boarded shipdecks are cleared.
Even thou the thought that my loyal officers single out the mutineers-to-be among themselves is fun, my guess is that it has something to do with an "accidental damage option" like the one in the setting file.
I am quite positive that all the events were triggered by colateral damage provoked by companions - not main chacter - for instance when firing blunderbusses doing group damage. Most of cases main character hadn'n drawn the blade at all.
If I still can't get around my intention would be to restart the game again with the accidental damage option off.
The one that applies to shipsbattle changing status of the respective nation to enemy.
I don't know, it is just a thougt! But you might want to look into it.
I too wish I had a reliable solution to the problem but I don't. My progress in the game is real slow because I enjoy every single step of the exploring in spite of the bugs in the 14a7. So I am really patient! Great work takes time.
Those who have tuned up the new companion options for officers and crew on land could certainly give a far better hint about where to look into.

Stay well mates!

i have noticed problems with the blunderbusses before. i used to have a crash every time a rogue in town fired one.

hahaha I can see ya rushing through the streets trying to kill off anyone with a blunderbuss before he fires.

that's exactly what i'm doing every time. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> i try to shoot him before he tries to shoot me. which is in fact what you should be trying to do in any situation, now i think of it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
