Tradeing with officers

Ok I have looked through all the posts and cant find anything that tells how to trade with officers I want to give my officers soem good swords.

Here is what you do:
1. Face the officer you want to exchange items with.
2. Hit the "Enter" key, or what ever key you have assigned to "Open Command Icon Menu"
3. Select the "Exchange" icon.
