Trading Problems

Hi There

I have been thoroughly enjoying the challenges of Build 12.

However, I am really stuck for money would you believe.
I managed to load enough money to buy a Caravel and use its increased cargo capacity to ship enough goods to make good profit.

However, this backfires on me almost always. I look at what kind of good a Island would import and then I try to buy it from a Island that would export them. Now if I am not mistaked I should make at least a small profit on the goods anyway. But most cases I make a huge loss instead. How can this be?

For example, I bought almost 30000 gold in sailcloth from Douwesen and sold it to Oxbay which imports it, I lost over 11000, how could that be if the price they pay for it is better than what I bought it for?

Is this a bug or am I just doing something wrong?

I dont think this is a bug, i would trade choclade though, makes more money, choclade for 30000 gold should be sold for something like `45000-55000` or so if im not wrong. Meanwhile, i would get a galleon, the caravel is nice for tradeing but its slow and lacks fire power. Unless your willing to flee for your life evry so often i would get a ship with better cannons. If you dont have the money, well then try to board a smaller ship (sloop, lugger, ect) and use it to board a galleon. Boarding is a great way to make money by the way.

When you do any trading, pay attention to the money you are paying for what you buy - the more you buy, the dearer the item, and so the price goes UP when you buy a LOT of it. And the reverse holds for selling. When there's not a lot of difference in the price that you buy and the price that you sell, you really have to pay attention to what you're paying - as you select more and more, the price eventually will go up - stop just short of there - don't load up your hold - and you will make a small profit trading Sailcloth. It will be small, but you will profit.

Best item to trade, IMO, is buying Oxbay Sandalwood to sell at Redmond. Or buy rum at Oxbay and bring it to the smugglers at Douwesen Tavern.
