Treasure Hunting in PA and POTC

I was downloading the update to Build 11 last night when an idea occurred to me that might 1. make modding somewhat available to us "`code-challenged`" individuals, 2. it might also do something to satisfy the members of the forum who want to make POTC into an online game, ( a mmmorpg, or whatever you call it, remember you're dealing with an old guy here, it took me two days to figure out what lol means) and 3. lastly, but not leastly; it would not necessarily greatly increase the workload for the already over worked modders. (and brilliant modders, I might well add.)

We are all aware that there are a number of treasure locations in the various jungles and beaches of POTC, the stone idol on Douwesen comes to mind, but I mean any location where the hand icon shows up is the kind of thing that I am talking about. I don't know if it would be possible to put specific, rather than random, treasures into one of these locations, but if it can be done there could be a large haul of emeralds on the beach of Octopus Bay, or a collection of all of the "fine" swords in one of the treasure spots in the Douwesen dungeon, or a set of all of the crystal skulls in the barrel next to the house in Oxbay, some treasure set up as the goal for a quest that can be found in the game when you figure out the clues to a puzzle you get from the PA site.(Whew, I can really make a run on sentence can't I?) Only people with the Build would be able to participate as one of the things you would have to do is download the update so that the treasure would actually be in the specific spot after the modders had managed to mod it in.

Over in the Burning Brig forum I started a thread, "X marks the spot", that has a puzzle that, if you solve it, it points you to a location within the POTC game. I set this up to see if anybody would be interested in this, or even solve my puzzle, and I'll be watching it to see if anyone comes up with the answer. If this is a doable idea, a person could apply to one of the moderators and the modders and thru PM's they could coordinate the set up of a location and possibly a specific treasure, and when this information is made a part of the update the member could post their puzzle. Members, or guests with Build 11, could download the update, solve the puzzle, and when they go to the location in the game, they would gain the treasure.

When someone else wants to set up a treasure map for the rest of us to solve, a new update would get rid of the old treasure, or possibly keep it in, and put in a new treasure in another location for another quest.

If this can be done, I think it would add a new dimension to the game and give us another way to enjoy the game and the PA Site. What do you think?

What an intriguing and delightful notion! That might be kinda fun! xD:

Most of those items you will "trip over" on your way to somewhere else are randomly generated, however you most certainly CAN place specific items in specific spots. :cheers

Location, location, location...

Thanks all,

I've been thinking about this and I realize that there is a place that would be a good location to hide a treasure; it's a spot that's not available for `95-98` percent of the main game.

<b>SPOILER ALERT!</b>

If you haven't finished the main quest in POTC, you may not want to read what follows. I'll try to be vague, but I don't want to ruin any surprises for anyone.

<b>SPOILER ALERT!</b>

I think you all can guess what area I am talking about, and it strikes me as being a location with some of the best looking graphics in the game. I have a saved game that I keep just so I can admire the scenery and the use of the space. It seems a waste that a portion of the game disapears, or becomes unattainable, after the end of the main game, and I wonder if there is a way to mod it back in? I figure it might be problematic to do this because any reworking might mess up the continutiy for the main story, I think we've all run into the conflicts between the various quests where you can block your ability to complete one quest by completing another. If you were to go to"the certain place" and you didn't have "the specific item" required to make progress, you might get stuck.

If this could be modded back in to be available after the main quest, an idea for a treasure quest could be that you find a treasure in one location, that is nothing but the cursed coins and the only way you can get rid of them is to leave them in, say a location in the maze or the alcove.

If none of this makes sense, you can PM me for a clarification. I don't want to wreck anyone's enjoyment of the game.

Actualy de location te be talk'n aboot could be done,ye jest need tew add tew de exist'n code a trigger tew encounter it after de main quest is finished,Entertain'n idea ye has dar mate, <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I love the idea, but maybe the treasure should only apear at the specific location after you have all the clues, or perhaps you first need to acuire a key, a map, or some other items before you can "dig" up the treasure.

Perhaps a quest where you have to colect a bunch of the cursed coins because the cursed pirates have abducted a lovely lady until you bring them the coins. Of course after you give them the coins you may have to run to the shore to escape because they try to kill you anyway.

Just food for thought <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Oh yes, this most definitely can be done. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Dis could be sumptin' dat PA! could run outta de Main Site like once a week or onct a month! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bounce.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":b:" border="0" alt="bounce.gif" />

Well, if it's complicated scripting, it could take some time to get together, what with testing and all, to make sure it works... Look how much time it's taken me to put together the FB quest... I'm still not finished! NEAR, but not near enough...

Granted, I'm not a scripting wiz like some people who have passed through this place, but I think it STILL takes quite a bit of time to write this stuff up...

Ye has ye a point thar, Cat! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Aye,fer sure ye 'ave a point Catalina, but ye be dew'n FB quest on yer own pretty much, what if we formed a mod team jest fer dis tresure hunt.der be some other people who knpw some or a litlle code'n include'n myself ,Nathan expressed a keen interest so if we really got stuck,he'd probably help if he has time.jest an idea <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

That would be nice, yes! I *love* the idea... I think it would be fun for everyone (and isn't that why we would do this? To share it with others?). It's the "if he (or anyone) has time" part that's difficult...
