Trying Mod Build 12.1

DraLion

Landlubber
Recently I started playing POTC again after quiting for some years now, after finishing the game itself I restarted the game and installed Build mod 12.1 .

It needed a bit of getting used to, but one thing that I found strange is what I call a way to extremely fast raise your levels in comparison with the old game.
On the Dutch island behind the waterfall is a cave with loads of bad guys, if you keep killing them for a about 1 hour you have enough money (from loot and selling swords) to buy a frigate or larger and enough levels up to get the ability for 40% less storm damage.
Then find yourself a storm preferably on the ocean and set time to x30 without using sails untill your ship almost sinks and then repeat the above again to repair your ship again.
Is this normal? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" />

Also I noticed that eventhough I use bombs as ammo it takes ages to sink ships, I agree that taking on 2 battleships, 3 frigates and 1 corvette and kill them all without getting hit once was unrealistic (the original game with most stats at 10), but I believe that if I hit a ship with a full load of bombs time and time again it should take more damage then it does now.

I do like the idea of various grades of degradation for the swords and guns you loot (pity a weapon doesnt get damaged once you use it, but thats another story), but where can I "repair" my gun, my sword I know and use him a whole lot, but havent found a man/woman who can repair my gun.

Apart from these 2 comments I have the Mod Build 12.1 is really cool and will probably continiue playing longer then I would normally do.

I downloaded build12_full.zip from the files section of www.piratesahoy.net (Build v12.1 Full Download).

build12_full.zip IS Build 12.1 and it is meant for playing, not for testing. The Pre Build 13 and Build 13 Beta modpacks are testversion though, but the Build 13 Beta DOES seem to work very well.

We are currently working on finishing Build 13, which should be released next week if everything goes well. It will greatly enhance the game and possibly solve some of the issues you mention.

To install the Pre Build 13 Beta:
1) Install your unmodded PotC
2) Install Build 12.1
3) Install Pre Build 13 Base
4) Install Build 13 Beta

All files can be found at my site.

Those things are normal, yes. Not properly balanced, but that is how it is. You can increase the difficulty level in the options menu (you can do this during the game; no new game required). If you do so, everything will become much harder and challenging.

In Build 13 the sea battles have been almost completely redone. Shooting cannons is more realistic AND looks better. Also enemy ships can surrender in some cases. Basically the entire balancing is different.

I completely agree with that. I had the same thought myself, so I made a blade damage mod and added it to the Build 13 Beta version. Now all blades WILL degrade in quality over time. And eventually they can even break.

In Build 12.1: Nowhere. There's just on blacksmith and he repairs only blades.
In Build 13 Beta: There are blacksmiths on all the stock game's islands. The Conceicao blacksmith repairs guns instead of blades.
