TWO VERY LARGE ISSUES.

Colosseum

Freebooter
Storm Modder
Alright, I've installed Build13 over the Build12.1 without any updates.

I had two updates that worked fine until I installed one from August 3rd, then my ENGINE.exe gave me an abnormal program termination for some reason. So,

please inform me as to what updates need to be installed and IN WHAT ORDER!!! And links would be nice, since I can't seem to get the Pieter's Pirates page to work for some reason.

Second issue:

Those new Blaze Devlin and Beatrice Devlin skins look WAY TOO ANIME-ISH TO BE IN A PIRATE GAME.

Thanks.

Will somebody answer my question? I've just tried installing pre_b13_upd_8_7_06.zip and ran English.bat and it caused that goddamned abnormal program termination. Will somebody compile the updates into one?

Don't worry, Colloseum. Pieter to the rescue. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

These are the installation instructions:
1] Point the <a href="http://pieter.piratesahoy.org/downloads/build12_full.zip" target="_blank">Build 12.1 self-extracting EXE file</a> to your Pirates of the Caribbean folder and press the "Extract" button
2] Let the installer run the RunMe.bat file and follow it's instructions
3] Extract the <a href="http://pieter.ipa-consolidated.net/pre_b13_base.zip" target="_blank">Pre Build 13 Base version</a> on top of your PotC installation
4] Extract the <a href="http://pieter.piratesahoy.org/downloads/pre_b13_upd_3-8-06.zip" target="_blank">Current Update</a> (5 August 2006) on top of your PotC installation
5] Run the English.bat file
6] Change the game's settings in PROGRAM\BuildSettings.h
7] Reset the controls to default
8] Start a new game and ENJOY!

As for Blaze Devlin and Beatrice Devlin: You are quite right as far as I'm concerned. These models were taken from Age of Pirates. I personally think AoP looks way too anime-ish to be a pirate game as well. Crazy Russians. They think having pirates in the Caribbean works well when the game looks like it was drawn in Japan. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

Anyway: You don't have to use them as starting characters. They are there for those people who do like it. You can encounter them sometimes, but that is easily fixed by opening PROGRAM\MODELS\initModels.c, searching for Devlin, BeatriceA and Beatrise. Then remove the AssignModelType lines below their model entries.

BTW: If I compile the update into one, it'll be a 400 MB file, which is going to be a major pain for me to upload. Build 13 will be a full download though that requires no additional downloads.

Thanks Pieter. It works now. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I'm really annoyed by the invasiveness of anime. It seems to permeate every new game now, and most people don't even know it.

Anime is becoming rather annoying, yes. Seems as if everything has to be anime: PC games, cartoons, everything. I never did like anime too much, but at one point you simply couldn't distinguish between the cartoons on the television anymore, because they all looked exactly the same. That's just sad. And now anime is working it's way into the pirate games. It really doesn't belong in there. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" />

The Japanese anime trend in games is related to technology. Computer graphics are getting good enough to make things look completely realistic. Designers who wanted things to feel like "just a game", particularly games involving violence where they did not want realistic gore, had to turn to unrealistic characters. Therefore they made a move to comic-book characters. Since Japan had a history of animated television characters in this style, often used in action sequences, it got adopted.

Personally, I wish they would stay with the more realistic look too, but game designers have marketing departments, and marketing departments talk about things like realistic violence and children, and so decide cartoon violence is OK for children, and so forth.

Then again, 300 years ago, a lot of 8-year-old boys ended up carrying sacks of gunpowder through a hail of grapeshot ... That might be a bit too much realistic violence for children.

I wish they stopped caring about too much violence and started giving games graphics from films like,

Maybe not the hair though.

Anyway if it is to "violent" then just put the rating up.
Will just get our parents to order or buy it.

I wish President Bush would just outlaw the viewing and selling of anime paraphernalia in the United States. I know I would.
