Unique Ships

Munty

Powder Monkey
So the question is a fairly easy one and so are some of the answers but there are a fair few quests that end up leaving the player with specific ships so it begs the question; how many are unique?

The Flying Dutchman, obviously
The Dog of War, superb corvette from CoaS
Bluebird, only Xebec available and stunning 4th Rate
Sea Wolf, Low's ship from Morgan's quest

And possibly missing a few obvious ones but can't think of any more... There are already two more I'm wondering about though and may well be more as I finish off this game so can anyone tell me if these 2 have anything special about them? By which I mean are they worth keeping! Both come with their own captains to look after them in port but it's a waste of officers and harbour space really so I'd like to know!

Arrow, pirate brig responsible for the theft of the double barrelled musket
Queen, the cursed pirate brig from the enchanted city quest

I just faced down the armada at the shores of Armatice and it seemed a shame to send all 10 Manowars to the bottom so I captured 4 and now have them running as a full fleet (max crew on the flagship and 200 on each of the others) costing less than 600k a month so seems good enough to me. Unfortunately I had all 5 ships with me when I ran into the Queen so I can't take it unless I sink a MoW which seems a bit counter productive :p

Any ideas would be great!

Cinco Llagas(Arabella)-Unique frigate from the beginning of Peter Blood storyline
Soleil Royale-French Man-o-War-French national quest.

There is no place for a brig in a fleet of warships imao-gets knackered too easily...

Arrow is a common brig, not unique.
...
There are still:
Arabella/CincoLlagas, the frigate of Blood.
Le Soleil Royal, terrifying superManowar in the quest-line Francaise.

Forgot about Arabella so that one is lost to me forever :p Shame really as right from the get go I thought it would be worth keeping for later in the game (before I knew anything of it being a one of a kind!) so tried to put together the money to store it but 40something thousand is a lot to find that early in the game! Look at me now paying over half a milion per month just to keep the crew happy lol

Won't be able to get the french man o war either as my national quests won't start thanks to old 'Enry Morgan :(

But conclusion is that Arrow is a common brig? And how about the Queen?

Do you have CMV3.1.5 installed because if you do then you can purchase or capture that ship ingame at anytime. She was unlocked for the reason of been unique to a character which didn't make sense for those who played with any other character.

If you haven't got CMV3.1.5 installed then you can go into Program\scripts == ShipsUtilites.C and add the following line of code to one or more rands. All you need to do is edit the parts that have XX in, which i will go into a little more detail in a little while. First copy this line of code into one or more rands in shipsutilities.

Code:
if (iTest_ship == XX) FillShipParamShipyard(NPChar, GenerateStoreShip(SHIP_ARABELLA), "shipXXX");

Now the first section with XX is amount of ships in that rand, so you add what ever number comes next. The second part with XXX in add the rand number, you will see that each ship in the rand will share the same value, ie 13, 14, 141, 151 etc etc. If you don't do this the game could crash when generating the ship at sea or if you purchase her at the shipyard the game could crash when leaving the shipyard if if using fast travel when going to the harbour.

This will not require a new game and will allow you to use the Arabella which uses the name Frigate ingame.

You do a full quest-line national after the eighth quest pirate's ("Steve Linney") and before the Panama's quest.

Arrow is unique in the name, but not in the look and in the stats.
I keep it forever as a mere trophy, parked in Trinidad. :urgh
...
The Queen is a brig good-looking: very similar to Sea Wolf.
But not exceptional in the stats (idem for Sea Wolf, IMHO): the best, in 4th Class, is forever the Blue Bird! :woot

Agreed, I had the bluebird before I even found this forum as it's one of the easier quests! Still use it frequently. In fact did the flying dutchman, tenochtitlan and several other big quests in it :)

So I'm still undecided whether I should keep these ships or let them go...

Absolutely not! Keep all the ships "uniques": Trophies are!
Parks with officers rogues, and use them for caprice or for necessity.
I use, for almost full game, the Blue Bird upgraded, or the Dog of War.
Only occasionally, in missions demanding, the Cinco Llagas or the Flying Dutchman or the Soleil Royal.

The Bluebird is a great ship but I don't think it would fare very well against my 5 MoW armada :p Yes there are ships that can easily outmaneouvre the Manowar but when there are five of them I dare say you'd be hardpushed to find a part of the ocean that doesn't have a broadside facing it :D

Edit : and yes I am well aware of the fact that 5 ships does not equal an armada so please no comments on incorrect terminology :p

That maybe the case but there is one thing the Bluebird can do that the MOW's can't and thats sail into the wind and escape. You could have your MOW's fire broadsides at the Bluebird as she sailed away but due to her rigging you wouldn't do much damage to those sails and because of her speed you wouldn't do as much damage to the ships hull.

The obvious thing is, what faul would attack or get close enough to 5 MOW's when they're in a Xebec. I might like challanges but even thats something i wouldn't try to do. xD:

Hah touche! Of course you're right, sometimes it's better to be able to outrun enemies than face them down. Especially if like me you were stupid enough to choose the realistic settings at the start of the game :s I changed down from my original MoW the old Catherine Elizabeth to the Bluebird a few days ago and the difference I felt in combat was staggering. I went down from a crew of 995 men to only 309 yet I decided to keep playing with the Bluebird just because the spped and handling was such a Godsend! The ability to escape 99% of the tedious random encounters that the world map throws at you is just an amazing bonus and I even took down some first rate ships with it (including a 3 ship patrol after smuggling which did consist of a Manowar amongst others!)

Still I figure if it were a real situation I'd be happier with 5 MoWs simply because if you have 5 MoWs the stupid little encounters you have in-game with ships that immediately turn and run simply wouldn't occur. You know when pirates chase you halfway across the Caribbean and when they finally engage you they just turn tail and run because they have no chance? Well in a real life situation they'd already know they didn't stand a chance before they caught up with you so they just wouldn't bother. Unfortunately in the game it takes them about half an hour to flee when you're in something as clumsy as a MoW and they're invariably sailing into the wind to escape :(

Of course you are right, Luke158 and Mounty.
But I speak not only to escape.
One Xebec can not compete head-on collision with 5 manowar.
There is no comparison between the powers of fire.
When I go to Amatrice to address 10 manowar, I go with 4-5 manowar, not with one xebec; when it bombed a fortress, I go with 1, or 2 or 3 manowar, not with a class 4.
But to navigate free and fast the Caribbean, to do quests, I use the Blue Bird (max, the Dog of War); and, in the path, I like to capture 1 or 2 manowar, and then sell it.
IMHO, this is fun, not power.
I like to attack the convoys, rob merchants and capture the great ships military in escort.
…
The problem is how each sees the fun.
And what is there to do at that stage of the game. There are situations that need 1 or 2 or many great ships; but when not needed, I prefer one only and little and speedy.

I like to use small ships aswell. I often use the Sloop just for the challange, however i will use other class 6 ships too. I'm not a Xebec fan so i normally put the Xebec in storage, i will use large 1st rate ships for attacking forts and Frigates as my flag ship when doing merchant runs with Fluet's, Galleons etc been used by my companions.

To make the game more fun i play with level increase as low as it will go, that way i reliy more on my officer's because i can't level up as fast, i don't capture ships, i loot them and sink them. In my current game i'm playing on captain and i selected pirates as my starting nation. I had to sell the cannons so i could get more crew, fix the ship and stock up on food. I had 3 battles where i had no guns mounted and now i have 8Ibs cannons mounted, my ship is the Barque (has been one of my favourite class 6 ships since playing COAS).

Oh and i wasn't been touchy, just pointing out what i wouldn't do.

gah here I am happy with my fleet and I have to sell them all to do the damn Edward Low quest anyway! Going to have to sink one of them so I cn capture the Queen and take it into port (will probably leave it with the Arrow so the musketeer and Danielle can have some fun together lol) I guess for now I'll just sell 4 of my MoWs and go back to a sixth rate for a few missions. Should be fun lol

Meh ended up selling all of them in the end :p Seemed the easiest thing to do. After all I make most of my money from pillaging Dutch military and punitive squadrons and capturing the best first rates but I can't do that if I already have a full squadron!

So I decided I'd sell off 2 of them to make room for some captures. Then I realised I only had one spare officer who was a good enough navigator to sail without penalties so I thought what the hell I'll just keep one for me and one for him!

Then I get the Edward Low quest and really can't be bothered putting 2 manowars in storage for over 120k so I just stored the Catherine Elizabeth and sold the last one too. It's not hard to come across MoWs if you attack the right fleets (despite what people say!) so maybe one day I'll get them back but not till I've finished all the main quests and I still have a few more to go.

Also I've become increasingly stunned by the lack of food in most major ports so that may stop me running my big fleet. The fact that the sale of food in some ports is actually illegal blows my mind but that's another story!

Yes we fixed that problem in CMV3.1.5 with food. However it can still be challanging to keep 5 MOW's with full crew going in less you keep your food stock level's very high at all times. What would be nice (and hope its possible one day) would be the ability to build a warehouse, if thats not possible then making it possible to store goods with the store owner who's store will act like a warehouse for you to use as you please.

ohh and i have a constitution with ALL the modifications. how? let's say that the governor general of the brittish nation gives me 100.000 per mission, and i have found two or three teasure chests.
