Is X3: Terran Conflict better than X3: Reunion? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> when I tried the demo of Reunion.. I must say the game is so static that it's unenjoyable. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/urgh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":urgh" border="0" alt="urgh.gif" /> It was nothing like the Privateer. It was just static.. it was like "You want a space game? You really really want a space game? Well here it is *throws the game at you* ya f**k!" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p2" border="0" alt="pirate3.gif" />

Seriously aren't there ANYMORE good space games that would satisfy me? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" /> All I can find now are some poor excuses. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Better than "Reunion"? That's a tough one because I suspect that while for me the answer has been yes, for you Deep the answer may or may not be.

I've played the "X" series from the beginning and the learning curve has always been very steep. The first one in particular pretty much left you floating in space after the intro with bugger all idea what to do next and I never did get very far with it. (I like to think I would now. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ) But I did find myself intrigued enough by the concept, that I decided to try again with the sequel.

The sequels have with each incarnation reduced the learning curve from a sheer face, to a steep slope and now finally to a steep slope with handholds. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> I can't remember how they handled it in the second one, but in "Reunion" (the second sequel or "X3") there was a definite career/story mode route you could follow from the outset, although to do so you had to live with some of the worst voice acting I have ever heard in a video game! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Perhaps the demo didn't give you this opportunity, I never saw it so I can't say for sure. But I can say for sure that "Reunion" was much more user friendly than it's two predecessors simply by telling you about my ingame bank accounts through the versions. In the first one I made nothing really. In the second one I made enough to eventually buy a second ship (which rather reminded me of an "Eagle" from "Space 1999") and start a mining operation. Then in Reunion I was given a second ship fairly early on in the story mode and I ended up owning a small fleet of about five and earning my first in game million.
(These kind of sums are laughable to anyone who "really" plays the game as opposed to dabbling like me.)

"Terran Conflict" changes the formula slightly again. I'm sure there are stacks of subtle changes for the officianardo, but as a mere part time fan I can point out some of the more obvious changes.

It brings multiple game starts into play, which is to say that you can choose between different characters and in doing so alter where you start the game and what you begin with in terms of wealth, equipment and ship.

It polishes up the graphics so they're prettier than "Reunion" was, without being a huge leap away.

It introduces a new way of interacting with stations, so you don't have to land at them to get prices or talk to people on board as well as adding an icon system which tells you in advance whether anyone on the station has a mission for you.

Also the mission system is dealt with more comprehensively, in that you are able to set the game to track your ongoing progress in a mission and always point you, by means of your HUD, at the right direction to go next.

I'm sure anyone reading this who hasn't played the games will will very board by now, so let me sum up by telling you that yes in my opinion it is better, prettier and more user friendly. But anyone who found no joy whatsoever in the previous outing, is unlikely to be won over by "Terran Conflicts" refinements.

As much as I enjoy the series, ultimately I'm "settling" if I'm honest. I want all that this game offers but I want to be able to land seamlessly on planets and I want to be able to leave my ship and have the game turn into a free roaming sandbox FPS when I do so! I want all the sizes in all the colours... and I want them NOW!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Hope that helps you Deep One. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I think i know what your problem is.

You installed the wrong build 13.

Build 13 full has 3 patches that are allready included in build 13 final.

Since you installed the full version and not the final you are missing some files.

Basically you either need to go through teh patches or download the correct build 13 ^^

If RunMe.bat doesn't find files, usually it just means that it's trying to move files that are already where they should be or is trying to delete files that are already not there. I get those messages myself too when installing, but it's nothing to worry about. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" />

Megla makes a valid point; If you install Build 13 FULL instead of Build 13 FINAL, you would indeed end up with erroneous worldmap ships.
Is this what your worldmap looks like?
<img src="http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p34/jurgen5211/mapships.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
This is a screenshot made by member Nosie who had installed Build 13 Full instead of Build 13 Final prior to installing B14 Alpha 9.
If that is indeed what it looks like for you, download <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?autocom=downloads&showfile=33" target="_blank">Build 13 Final</a>, then perform the installation once more with that instead of Build 13 Full.

That's it lads, that's it exactly! My sea map looks just like that. I even stumbled accross this possibility on the last page of this thread where I asked if "13 full" was the same as "13 final". Nobody picked up on it at that point but it's my own fault because I insert these points in amidst a sea of babble and peoplke forget by the end what I said in the middle! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Right.. I'll go find a "13 Final" and (really I don't believe I'm going to say this...) install the whole thing again. I don't believe that I've installed another game as many times in an effort to get it working. If there's any justice "New Horizons" will be the best damn game I ever played!!

If nothing else it's been really nice to come accross such a helpful and friendly community, even if you are a buncha salty sea dogs!

You don't have to go FIND it; I posted the link right in my previous post. That's why Build 13 Final was underlined. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Sorry for missing that question; indeed Build 13 FINAL is NOT the same as Build 13 FULL.
The difference is that Build 13 FINAL does include Update 3 and Build 13 Full doesn't.
The new mapships were added in Update 3, so that explains why they would be missing. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

With all the new stuff being added to "New Horizons", it <i></i>is shaping up to be absolutely incredible.
Since it's still in Alpha mode, it isn't incredible just yet due to several bugs still there, but it's already fairly playable.
And it does give a nice preview of what to expect in the final Build 14, which is going to be much better than Apha 9. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />
