Although I like original PoTC music very much and I am used to at it almost patologically, I wanted to try something different at least once. I installed the PoTC film music into game and I can tell you I really likes it very much. Especially the main film´s melody that is used in the course of the sea battles and sailing. What´s your opinion about this music and its using in the game? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />
 
I usually have Windows Media Player playing film music while I'm playing PotC. If I were to use any of the music packs, I would get the Cutthroat Island one. The music to Cutthroat Island is truly amazing. I like the music to PotC, but Cutthroat Island is <i>soooo</i> much more better! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

BTW: If you start PotC and keep the main menu open without actually starting a new game or loading an existing one, you'll hear the Cutthroat Island main theme. I couldn't resist adding that to the Pre Build 13 pack. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />
 
Oh man, that's my favorite music in the game! Makes me glad I downloaded the CI music earlier today. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

I must try this CI music: Can I normally exchange it by rewriting my PoTC music and later to return to this PoTC music if I would like? But original music isn´t bad at all too. But I don´t like music from Master and Commander too much in game. It most certainly is as far as I'm concerned. I used to really like the music to PotC, but I lost virtually all interest as soon as I heard Cutthroat Island, because it is sooo much better. One of the main differences is that Cutthroat Island uses a real orchestra and no synthesizers at all. PotC is pretty nice music, but several parts really don't sound piratey. Cutthroat Island is pirate music all the way. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

To Rad: You can use any music pack you like. If you want to return to another music pack, just reinstall it on top again. Actually: You just need to replace music_alias.ini. That's the only file that needs changing once the music files are in place. The music files don't overwrite each other. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" />

Some of it is very good indeed. Overall I like it.

I had some problems getting it to work at first. I'd made a "Copy of music_alias.ini" and apparently the game was picking that up instead of the real file. After removing that from the folder, I got the new music.

I just tried CI music. It isn´t bad it´s having style and it is as from some old adventurous film. But it is in some cases a little sad for me and in tavern play all the time only violin and a drum. For that reason I prefer PoTC fim music the best of all and I reverted to it. And all my music worked without any problem. Every time I had to install related alias.ini file and and it is necessary to reinitialize game. What about music from Sid Meier´s Pirates? As I can remeber it wasn´t bad as well. Could someone put it on Pieters page for downloading? We could try it too. What do you think about it ? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
 
There is a Sid Meyer's Pirates music download on the FTP. There use to be a Pirates Gold music download, but I don't have it and it doesn't seem to be available anymore either.
 
Perhaps we should mix and match for the music rather than use an entire soundtrack in one go. Say pick pieces that suit particular scenes or locations and use 'em. I'd expect some decent traditional fiddle music would add a sufficienty 'piratey' theme to things; throw in a few jigs, reels and hornpipes, and a little Baroque chamber music when visiting a governor, some gregorian chant in the church...

If I could work out how to upload to the FTP (for some reason my usual program SSH Secure Shell won't work) I'd stick a couple of tracks from Scots fiddler Alasdair Fraser's 'Fire and Grace' album up there for ye to see what I be meaning. 'The Sailor's Wife' would fit in perfectly as would 'Brose and Butter'.
 
What you suggest can easily be done by modifying music_alias.ini.

Found it. It is PGMus.zip from Feb 2004 Kell posted over 2 years ago.
The file is 19.8MB. Is that OK for the FTP?

I also found Mad-h's resampled version of the same. It is 17.8MB

Pieter, I just found that Mad-h's version he called "PGMusBetterSoundingVersion.zip" is already on there.
I don't know if it really is a Better Sounding Version, but now they are both up.

guys, i was wondering how i could turn normal music into music usable in the game...do i have to convert the music to .ogg format, and rename it to the name of the song i want to replace? is there anything else?
i've been thinking of adding some music from DMC into the game when i get it again. the reason i'm asking is because i want to make i nice list of useful info and maybe put it up in a single post here, if i think other people might need it.
